In this video we explore the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking and I reflect upon why I love being an introvert. Like most of western culture, I undervalued my personality type compared to more extroverted people. However, thanks to Susan Cain's book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking I learnt to appreciate how much value being introverted adds to my life.

Whether you’re more of an introvert or more of an extrovert, what do you enjoy the most about the way you are? ☺️

I'm an introvert who possesses most of the pros that come with being a quieter person, however, I fear that people will think that I'm arrogant and not interested in them so when I try and join in with conversations it comes across as disingenuous reinforcing why I reframe from group conversations. One-on-one is fine, but being a big group in difficult for me. I don't want people to think that I'm rude or arrogant, but keeping to myself sometimes feels like the best option to avoid feeling embarrassed.

Now that I live alone and spend time in my woods and gardening and taking care of animals, I realize I am comfortable being an introvert. I think my "party girl" and feeling like I need a ton of friends and activity was really being uncomfortable with me, being me. Now that I love me and being me, I don't need the feedback of others to feel okay.

I’ve just started reading the book. I just know growing up I thought I was just shy with new people- as you know public school is focused around extroverts. is As I grew up, I grew in confidence conversing with strangers. It had to become a skill. I like having very few close friends separately, I wouldn’t call myself someone who likes going to things with a group of people or being excited about being placed in a group chat. It just doesn’t resonate with me. Deep conversation and having hobbies are so important to me that I live most of the time in a world of my own peace and happiness.

The problem is with our society. We introverted person won't mind being a pseudo-extrovert for a while. Because we know once the "social engagement" over, we called it a day, recharge and lost ourselves in our own solitude. But the extroversion society won't understand this need. In work, university, school people love people who speaks up, socialize than the quiet one. I hope extroverted people respect introvert boundary, we appreciate quietness, solitude and reflecting almost everything we experienced in our life. We don't call it quiet, in our perspective sometimes silence can be deafening. There should be balance in everything.
