MuX ISUZU TOWING REVIEW Roothy

Righto well the big question is how well does the Isuzu MuX handle it's 3.5 tonne towing capacity? The answer is it's quite amazing. Certainly way better than I thought and this was in a week where there was a Dodge Ram - the ultimate tow truck - getting driven around here too.
It's unusual for me to even look at a 2wd vehicle but this was part of the selection process for me - as in, could I handle driving two wheel drive again as an everyday touring and adventure car. The answer is no - I loved driving the MuX and the 2wd version has plenty of advantages including a terrific turning circle but as a PERSONAL choice, I'm too used to 4wd to be able to go back now. As long as there's a dirt track and a mud puddle, I don't want to think I can't go there!

I love my 2020 DMAX fuel economy is amazing, comfort is great, capability is great. My mate has the MUX and it is the same!

Fantastic review thanks John! I’m looking forward to my MUX arriving later this year in the same exact spec apart from the 4x4 variant. I only considered getting the 4x4 as I thought if I’m spending this much for my first brand new car, I may aswell spend the extra few thousand or so to have that feature on tap incase I do need it away on a trip! base model for me is the way to go absolutely!!

Hay Roothy, Only one problem with the MUX, they registered it in Queensland and not in NSW, Mate!!! LOL.

Had the D max at work and engines are un breakable in normal driving, trade vehicles with 30 foot extension ladders on roof, and boot full of gear, stop start traffic and reverse parking 10 times a day, just keep going with good oil changes and filter changes.


P.S. you did not mention how good the air conditioning worked.

Needs a bit of an ECU recalibrate. The stock tune is a bit lazy.

2:57 Wrong! the park brake will not automatically engage if you stop and you are still in drive! it will only engage if you are in park or neutral.

They're a decent thing, though the braked towing capacity goes down to 3, 200kg when the car is loaded up to GVM.

Hi John, I've just got a MUX and had the worst towing experience of my life. Sway sway sway. Load was over the axles, anti-sway bar on, turned off auto lane sensors. Do you have any suggestions. Had been towing exactly the same (float and horses) with a Jeep, no sway. Otherwise, it is well appointed etc. Any help greatly appreciated.

It will tow the van I have put the engine is really working.
