What can a 2021 Isuzu MU-X tow? What load can it really carry?

Isuzu MU-X has been around for a while now, but it doesn't get the acclaim that some other SUVs do. In this video, TVD from Caravan World will be looking at what this SUV can actually tow and how much weight it can carry!

There is a lot of mistrust in the world about utes and SUV's and the loads they can tow/carry. Marketers tell you a car can tow 3500kg, but they fail to mention some important information.

This is what you NEED to know about your tow vehicle and what it can really carry

And then most people would have to factor in mobs like a bull bar, spot lights, roof rack, fridge, rear drawers, jerry cans…..etc

you missed the most important weight - rear axle load.
any 4x4 having a 250kg ball weight applied, and "loaded" with anything more than 1 'normal' adult, will be over the rear axle weight, making everything else pointless :(

Is a full tank of fuel assumed prior to calculating payload?

That 225kg has to include the towbar, WDH, brake controller and wiring harnesses for anderson plugs. That is 50kg of kit. That means its payload is a pathetic 175kg.
No, not all manufacturers lie about GCM.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has a GVM of 2775kg a max tow weight of 3100kg and a GCM of 5565kg. (GTM of a caravan weighing 3100kg is 2790kg).
2790 + 2775 is 5565kg.
The top spec Pajero Sport has 40kg more payload than the top spec MUX so whilst the MUX leaves you with 175kg payload when maxed out to manufacturer's tow limit the Mitsubishi has 665kg minus 310kg TBM minus that 50kg towkit allowance so 300kg payload maxed out to manufacturer's towing limit.
Mitsubishi = realistic limit
Isuzu = delusional limit.
Even putting 3100kg behind the MUX so you don't have to lower its GVM of 2800kg the figures are 625kg minus 310kg TBM minus 50kg Towpack leaves 245kg a massive 55kg more than the MUX with its claimed greater towing ability!
Of course the Mitsubishi also has a 3 year longer warranty and fixed priced servicing than the MUX.
The Pajero Sport can tow that max caravan in 4H on all surfaces giving significantly better traction on slippery wet bitumen on twisty roads. This is critical with 3t pushing a tud weighing similar. The MUX has a primitive part time loose surface only 4 wheel transfer case system meanin towing that caravan on slippery twisty wet bitumen can only be done in RWD.
You very much misrepresented the Pajero Sport by comparing its claimed specs with reality. The MUX is a huge disappointment despite its electronics finally catching up to its peers. For safest towing in a ute based 4x4 wagon only Everest and Pajero Sport offer AWD all surface 4 paw grip. MUX and Fortuna are a generation behind with part time 4wd systems.

👍. No those figures should be stated by the manufacturers ! Ie car & caravan manufacturers. Including full wet weight not bloody dry weight or the bs of tank half full of fuel.! There is no common sense anymore!
