Seeing the deaf girl hear for the first time was emotional for me..As a parent of a deaf child who is now an adult we were given the opportunity for the surgery of the cochlear implant for my daughter..At the time my daughter was 2 yrs old..The surgery was so new at the time we didn't really know what to do or who to ask to make that decision..With her being 2 yrs old making a choice for her when she had no choice of her own was too much to bare..We opted to not have it as we educated ourselves about the culture of the deaf community..When asked by my daughter several years later why we decided not to have it my only response to her was that we love you just the way you are..She never had the surgery as she never missed not being able to hear.. case being.. how can you miss something you never had ??..Today my daughter is a college professor..we are so proud of her..I guess my message here is you can be and do anything you want in life and life can slow you down only if you let it..I am happy for this little girl and hope her dreams come too as well..
