We finally got the correct cable that was part of the kit and were able to connect the laptop to the ECU. What can we see and how does that help us. Let's collect a logfile and send it for analysis

The TR6 in this mini-series is mine. Let me address two questions: one, why I wanted an injection system and two, why this project is complicated. I decided on injection and an electronic control unit on my TR6 to have a reliable, driveable and efficient classic sports car. I want a car that will start in cold weather, adjust itself to engine conditions, run efficiently, and reliably function over the long term without constant adjustment. An injection system does not add horsepower. Even before Elin’s work in this video, the injection system enabled quick starts with a cold engine and operated reliably. Yes, there is a fair amount of problem solving in these videos. But the largest challenges you see are those inherited from a previous installation that was – shall we say – incomplete. Should anyone start a conversion on his own car, there ought to be fewer surprises. Plus there are a number of detailed videos that show smooth conversions from from carbs to injection. Finally, usually vendors, in this case Rick Patton, are very supportive with a wealth of technical experience. The conversion to injection is not a trivial undertaking. But once done it ought to add years of enjoyment.

I probably will never do the Patton but I love your detailed work and explanations in all of your videos. It’s wonderful!

I can see the attraction of adding a computer to monitor the mechanical systems. Having all that data at your finger tips really gives one a look into the health of the system. The problems start when the computer starts managing and making adjustments to the system. On the other hand some of todays modern systems are so complicated, only a computer can operate them. Unfortunately it leads to some disasters, the Boeing Max 737 and the self driving Tesla's, to name two. Thanks for posting.

Job well done Elin. Maybe just because I am an old man now, although my job was an electronics engineer, one of the main attractions of a classic car is that it doesn't rely on a bunch of noughts and ones to make it run! Anyhow, each to their own I guess.

Glad you explained the way adding air made it richer, it was puzzling me.

Hi Elin, great video though I’d chime in enjoyed watching you go through your diagnosis procedure. I happen to also own a 73 Tr6 and have the Patton system installed about 10 years now and have been completely satisfied with its performance. Although my older system does not incorporate the IAC functionality but by watching the video my installation and what you are dealing with are very similar. I did have a run on problem initially but solved that issue by keeping that carbon canister and anti run-on valve setup that was original to the vehicle, problem solved. If any of your viewers are considering this system I fully recommend it just be aware that additional changes need to be added for 1 a fuel return line needs to be installed and a I had a fitting install at the top of the fuel tank to facilitate the connection of the return line. Also having the software and cable are instrumental to the setup.

Hi Elin, the baud rate is the serial port speed in bits per second.

In case no one explained it. Baud is the speed of the date transferring from the car to the PC. Like in the old days with modems

A baud rate of 4800 baud is equal to 4800 bits per second (bps). This is a standard baud rate, along with 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200, 230400, 460800, and 921600.

Guessing the slower baud rate is to play is safe as they don't know how old the PC that connects to it is.

You won't notice for something like this, so I assume 4800b the safest route.

I hope this helps, if so, I hope it covers a portion of the interest I owe you based on what you share...

18:54 the benefit of the digital system would be that you don't have to adjust the throttle position sensor manually; you would just adjust that range in the software configuration. That is, whatever voltage corresponds to 0% and 100% are entered into configuration.

I always understood the IAC to be a way for the computer to control the idle speed and was more appropriate for 'modern' cars that have additional systems that draw energy from the engine, like air conditioning, power steering, etc. As these demands are placed on the engine (and removed), the engine needs to adjust its idle speed otherwise it might stall. Anyway, that's what I thought it did.

the real question is: is the patton realy worth the expense, and how much more power did we get ? sorry another question is it more fuel efficient?

The biggest issue is consistent idle and pickup from closed throttle. The strombergs are very difficult to get right. And then it changes. I do have a mild road cam and that likely doesn’t help I’ve had enough of the strombergs.

Elin, baud is pronounced bod as in body and it's the number of bits per second communication speed.

Great work so far just seems like way to much work for a backyard mechanic and if you don’t get it right way to much trouble to get it fixed . Does it really transform the car to a modern vehicle.

IAC doesn't make car richer. It is just like the little cam on the choke lever that increases idle by allowing more air in.
