Josh actually has a very friendly demeanour, so the way he transformed himself in this film was amazing. He looked hard and forbidding and not very attractive, his body language was full of prickly warning signs. That's what acting is all about.

When I watched that cathartic barn scene, I thought it was a most amazing display of an act of healing. You can feel how Gheorghe lifts the heavy weight of Johhny's self-hatred and blinding, numbing hopelessness, as poison is drawn from a wound. I also really liked the characters of Deirdre and Martin, the grandmother and father. The way they are introduced as constant reminders of threat and failure to Johnny is gradually revealed to be only based on their worry about their son's unhappiness and the future of the family business. Not at all on his sexuality as may have been part of his fears.

I know it’s kinda obvious to say because actors spend their careers pretending to be other people but the difference between Johnny and Connor is breathtaking, especially the Johnny we see at the start of the film. I was scrolling through Netflix looking for a random movie to watch when I stumbled across this film that completely changed my life. I shared it with my friend who is a straight Muslim female, so about as sheltered from this type of cinema as you can get. She had to watch it twice just to get pass her initial judgement, but boy - did she love it. The storytelling in this piece is masterful, the actors incredible, just everything! Couldn’t have been done better by anyone in the world.

I looked at your interview after the movie and saw how different you are from that character in God’s Own Country .And this is the true skill of the actor, a complete transformation into the role.I fully believed as if I watched a documentary.Without superfluous words, you managed to show such strong emotions, such a transformation of the personality from complete degradation of personality, loneliness, emptiness to true love and faith in life. You gave hope to many people. You made me cry because of loneliness and despair at the beginning of the story and because of being happy in the final scene.I really want you not to be spoiled by popularity and you could always remain yourself the same sincere, childishly direct, cheerful guy! I'm sure you have a great future in the film industry. I wish you new victories and good luck!
