The 2020 iMac Redesign!

The iMac is the flagship desktop Mac, but it hasn't received a design up since 2012! In this video, I go over the 2020 iMac redesign that I would like to see and what I think we can expect Apple can do to freshen up the iMac.

a few years ago i saw a design for an imac that worked normally in it's regular position but then when it was moved down or more flat it was usable as a touch screen like a giant ipad pro.

this is what i want. as an artist i would like to be able to have one machine to go back and forth between touch and mouse in a flat or verticle position.

sorta lie the microsoft surface studi. if i mac could outdo that with apple OS i would be happy as hell!

I got a maxed out 27" 2019 model, upgraded the memory myself, and I'm quite happy. Does anyone actually believe you will be able to upgrade your own memory in a redesigned model? But the bezels bezels bezels will be smaller smaller smaller.

Yeah, I would LOVE, if Apple made a thicker Model. Kind of like in 2011. With the magnetic Glass attachment, so easier to get into, and EASY UPGREADABILATY!!!

Agree with all of this, would be a great platform for a new iMac. I’ve just ordered a new maxxed out 27” and think I’ll regret it in 6-8 months 😬

I’d honestly like to see them scrap the whole computer-inside-the-monitor design. I’m tired of having to break open an extremely fragile screen every time I want to upgrade or need a repair. I’d like to see some sort of Mac Mini/Apple Display type of mash-up, where the computer is actually inside the monitor stand, not the monitor itself. Make it user accessible for easy upgrades of common parts like RAM & storage.

The iMac Pro should be positioned as the “Prosumer” product the Mac Pro simply isn’t, but it needs to be updated internally.

Base Model iMac Pro vs iMac 5K would be a matter of whether or not you benefit from more Thunderbolt 3 ports, 10Gb Ethernet, ECC RAM or the manufacturing tolerances of a Xeon processor, but if you need more power, a specced up iMac Pro may be more desirable.

I’d also like to see a Touch ID sensor, if not a Touchbar, on Magic Keyboard 3, and I’d hope that the new peripherals would be USB-C instead of Lightning.

A slimmer chin would continue for the sake of brand recognition without it being needlessly dramatic.

I wouldn’t put it past Apple to reserve the better speakers and/or heat sinks for the “Pro” lineup. I expect some improvements, but nothing so drastic.

The thinnest speaker within the stand....that’s it. The external bezel is classic.

Don’t forget.. thick bezels create a more immersive user experience. Bezel thinness matters more on a phone where size is at premium on a device that must fit in your pocket. Not so with a desktop, thin bezels might be more aesthetically pleasing but this comes at a cost — less separation between the desktop workspace and the surrounding environment. Something our eyes do pick up on.

Other than the Intel chip (I hope Apple makes there own chips for the iMacs and MacBooks) I agree with your list

I don't agree with most of what you said.

- Apple reduced bezels to all their PORTABLE devices where screen to body ratio is much more important than desktop screens. Honestly when working on my 5K iMac the display is so huge I don't notice the bezels anymore

- No need to make them thicker. Apple showed that they could do great thermal performances in that chassis with the iMac Pro and even the new 2019 iMac that doesn't throttle at all.

of course a redesign would be nice but I find this design iconic and no real NEED to change it other than to please customers that watch hideous redesign renders all day.

I do agree with the inside specs especially having a full SSD lineup.

They should update it when they update all of their product line with mini led. Also they should remove the bottom part. In all honesty it should look like the pro display but with a computer built in to it.

They should make the stand removable so you can mount it via the VESA mount.

I do like the screen sizes they have, so a smaller bezel reducing the overall footprint would be something i'm really interested in

Spot on perfect points. If they do as you suggest, I’ll finally upgrade my soon to be obsolete 2011 iMac.
