The way he speaks in such an intelligent, clear, almost lawyer like way, and then switches into such a guttural roar when he says “IT BECOMES A HOUND” is such a perfect way to capture Percy’s character and voice.

This I would say perfectly captures Percy. This song has his intelligence in a way, his clear realization of the dark path he watches...but it also has when he bares his fangs so to speak. When no mercy Percy comes out, and everyone becomes either hyped when he is on their side...or terrified when on the other end.

I love that it's self contained, you don't need to know what critical role is to understand the journey. It reminds me of old folk ballads that me and my dad listened to, like El Paso or Seven Spanish Angels. Just a story of tragedy that ends in too much death.

I think "your name is written on steel" is the only line that you don't fully understand without watching the show. But it's also vague enough that i would be curious what kind of imagery it would invoke without the context.

I LOVE the sort of gravelly, rock-n-roll style voice you used for the chorus/ending! Reminds me of the rough, slightly unhinged quality of Taliesin’s voice in lines like “Your soul is forfeit! Die! DIE!” And using a hammer hitting an anvil for the beat? GENIUS. And the rhythm of the lyrics just has this rushing, unstoppable wildness that fits Percy so well - this feeling that you couldn’t slow down even if you wanted to, just like Percy.

I run a D&D campaign set 10 years after the 1st campaign. One of the characters is a Noble from Whitestone that would have been about 10 when Percy & Vox Machina liberated Whitestone. I just sent him this song and told him his character knows it by heart.
