Joe Biden slammed for bringing up debunked Trump Charlottesville hoax

US President Joe Biden has been slammed online after bringing up a widely debunked claim about former president Donald Trump during his address at the Democratic National Convention on Monday.
During the speech, he brought up the Charlottesville incident, citing it as the reason he "ran for president in 2020."
“I ran for president in 2020 because of what I saw in Charlottesville in August of 2017,” he said.
“When the president was asked what he thought had happened, Donald Trump said, and I quote, 'There are very fine people on both sides.' My God, that's what he said.”
The Charlottesville incident that took place in August 2017 was originally a protest over the removal of the statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
The protest went pear-shaped when far-right groups intervened creating a national impact in America.
When Trump made the "very fine people" comment after the incident, he was referring to the protesters and counter protesters and outright condemned the far-right extremist.
The fact-checker 'Snopes' acknowledged Trump at the time was "specifically referring to those who were there only to participate in the statue protest".
