i just wanna point out to Matt Walsh that in the orignial little mermaid, they were not a deep sea kingdom. they were surrounded by brightly colored tropical fish, with the sun beams reaching the kingdom. This means that the kingdom is definitely less than 200m below the surface. crabs dont settle more than like 90m below the surface. so in all likelyhood, Poseidon's kingdom is completely visible from the surface. its just like, a hundred feet down. sorry my inner DOB came out when Matt wanted to be pedantic about disney movies.

Captain Marvel was especially funny to me. Carol Danvers discovers that the noble military that sends her to fight terrorists is actually a brutal war machine and her enemies are desperate freedom fighters. Yet the US military is treated as an unquestionably postive force.

I like how Matt Walsh's "scientific" mermaid argument basically implies Ariel should be a pale, eyeless monstrosity like a cave fish as a justification for her to have pale Caucasian skin instead of being black.

Speaking of “Wings”, it’s interesting to note that it features what is believed to be the first male/male kiss in cinema history. It also briefly shows a lesbian couple, Clara Bow’s boobs, and a bunch of naked men’s asses, to seemingly no public uproar. Weird how audiences IN 1927 seemed to care less about “wokeness” on the silver screen than audiences nearly a hundred years later. It even went on to win an academy award for best picture.

As a white kid with black hair and glasses I constantly got compared to Harry Potter growing up. I wish for every kid, of every race, of every description, to be able to feel that same pain and misery as they get compared to diverse movie characters.

Disney is TOTALLY woke guys, I mean why else would they cancel The Owl House, a show that had a ton of great representation including a gay relationship between two characters that actually mattered?

the wildest part about the specific complaint "oh you could never make blazing saddles today" is that whether or not you could recreate the same movie feel, today the backlash for the "woke" scene where gene wilder (reincarnated i guess) calls racists morons would be overwhelming

Thank you for speaking about the ACTUAL etymology of the term “woke/stay woke” it always bothered me how certain groups hijacked that term from black culture and then turned around and tried to tell people how and when they could use said term.

Thank you. We have been saying WOKE before I was born. In the 90s we said it in school and it meant something different from what they hijacked it as. Woke now means your aware of differences and blah blah. Like how is that bad lol. We used it by saying someone has opened tbier eye to things and the world and is getting wisdom.
