In this edition of #thedailydoug, I'm chatting with the legend himself, Tony Levin. For decades, Tony has been among the world's leading bassists. Today, he's chatting with me about his new album, Bringing it Down to the Bass, and his upcoming BEAT Tour with Adrian Belew, Steve Vai, and Danny Carey. After the interview, we listen to Road Dogs from the album. I hope you enjoy!

I was lucky enough to have dinner (along with 7/8 other people) with Levin before a Stick Men concert organized by a friend of mine. High level person, very respectful, professional and totally free from any presumption. I also remember Pat Mastellotto's friendliness and his versatility on stage. It was a great evening overall and a perfect and very interesting performance. I am very pleased to see him in perfect shape, always looking towards the future. A great musician who leaves a profound mark on music.

I was lucky enough to attend the San Jose debut performance of BEAT - Belew, Levin, Via, and Carey were phenomenal!

This was awesome thanks Doug! Out of everyone, the person I would love to see you interview most is Mike Portnoy. I know you love his drumming, and he does a ton of media/interviews.

I've been a very big fan of Tony since I discovered Liquid Tension Experiment about 20 years ago, and later King Crimson which became my favourite band. He's a really great person and a huge influence on me as a bass player. Thanks for this interview Doug!

Such a fantastic interview, thank you Doug and Tony! Was disappointed to be out of town the night the BEAT guys were in my town but sure love that we are getting more music from Tony. Just pre-ordered!

This man has played with the best of the best. He once was in an orchestra concert conducted by Igor Stravinsky. He had recorded with Sabicas. He's been active as a
professional five decades, and still counting

It warms my heart to see this come to fruition! Wonderful interview, Doug! I think you took it in some directions that Tony didn't expect, which he obviously appreciated. Tony's a classy guy, in every possible way.

I remember walking around the WOMAD festival in Cornwall (England) in the early 90's and seeing Tony Levin walking around the stalls. I was so desperate to say hello as he inspired me so much but didn't as I wanted to give him his privacy. What a lovely man

Tony Levin is awsome, so talented yet so modest.

Tony has been one of my most favourite musicians of all time ever since I saw him live during King Crimson's Three Of A Perfect Pair tour way back in 1985. What a complete gentleman!

Thanks for this, Doug! 👍

Truly an icon of a player.
Not only as a member of King Crimson, but also different projects.
Also one of the most meritous session musicians around, putting down some great bass for John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Sarah Mclachlan, David Bowie, the DT guys... But mostly for Peter Gabriel both studio and live. His play on "So" is class!
