Good test, honest and experiencing what many face with battery cars. The issues with charge points you can imagine being the same in all rural areas. It’s good to see you enjoying creature comforts of a new car. There is a place, but as an option not a replacement to petrol and diesel

I don't understand the hate people have for electric cars. Hubnut is about various things but one of the most important, as JayEmm once testified, is being open to different views and tastes. And another is Ian's delivery which we all enjoy otherwise we wouldn't watch Hubnut. If he were to talk about sewing machines in a video, I'd watch it because this is Hubnut, and I suspect many would too. But an actual car just with a different means of propulsion and some petrolheads are getting their knickers in a twist. Grow up.

I enjoyed that, I have been lucky enough this year to be able to own a 2021 Kia after 30 years of buying sub-£3k cars and I’m staggered at the difference in quality, the supply chain of components to the auto industry has improved markedly in the last few years, difficult to buy a ‘bad car’ now and thankfully those days are behind us.
I fully embrace new stuff now and never thought I would, I could see that you both appreciated this about the Fiat.
Of course I still love watching your spannering capers; whilst also enjoying this touch of modern stuff! Keep it coming 😊

Had my Tesla Model 3 since August, I have always had family based cars almost always petrol but decided to spoil myself and buy the Tesla. I cannot ever see me going back to a ICE car, i love everything about it, as i have off street parking and had a charger installed at my home i have never used public charging except the free pod points at Tesco when they were free and i was getting my shopping and a bit of breakfast. I also used it on a break in the Cotswolds, on arrival at the hotel found it had free to used Tesla destination chargers so woke up every morning to a full tank for our day of touring around the area. On our return journey went from not far outside Gloucester to Blenheim Palace and return to Port Talbot without the need for an additional charge. It is a real treat to wake up in the morning and head for work with seats and steering wheel nice and warm or cool in the summer. Very odd to not have a servicing schedule and any software updates received over the air overnight.

The shortest road journey from our home in Sussex to Charing Cross is a mere 49 miles. The mobile phone signal at home is non-existent, not just a bit patchy, non-existent. No mobile data at all.
There are no street lights and most houses in the village centre where we live, have no parking at all.
There are 1500 residents, not a single public charging point.
My 6 year old VW Polos' trade value has increased by at least £2000 in the last 2 years.
Something tells me that although the corporate vampires want us to conform, it will be decades before the infrastructure and pricing make EV cars affordable for all and even then, it still should be a choice, right?
Anyway, I love your channel and I love what you do, always interesting, thoughtful and deft turn of phrase, thank you Ian & Miss H, you always brighten every day, and no need to drive around looking for a charging point 😎

Never get the oh just have a coffee while charging. I want to go somewhere and come back not endlessly handing around waiting on the car to charge.

Nice review Ian. It's nice to see a petrol head that likes EVs, as I am the same.

I've a Tesla Model 3 LR, it's the best car I've owned, bar none, apart from.the Model 3 it replaced . It's an AWD, 400 bhp 5 seat sport saloon and has real-world range of 300 miles on the motorway. £ for £ there is nothing like them on the road.

It's done 400 miles today at an average speed of 59 mph, at the grand cost of £14.60.

I charged for 14 minutes, the amount of time it took to go to the services restroom and grab a coffee, hardly an inconvenience.

If they've gone to the effort of providing a manual door release then why on earth bother with the extra complexity of the electronic one? Totally pointless in my opinion.

I'm completely fed up being dazzled by led headlights then plunged into darkness as my eyes readjust. Halogen are bright enough for me

unknown scares people. and I have no problem admitting that EVs scare me immensely. also, I dont think I'll ever get over the range anxiety and 40+ minutes of usable charging times. not that I can afford any EV as of now, but I can't see myself in one.

thanks for the review guys, you are the best 👍

Very fair review that mirrors my own experience of living with a Fiat 500e for a year, especially the part about the enjoyment of one-pedal driving. With a light foot, I get 4 miles per KWh in mixed driving but I would definitely not have bought an EV if I couldn't charge from home due to the lack of rapid chargers where I live in central Scotland.

In the last 5 years seven - yes seven - housing estates have gone up bringing a huge influx of new cars. There are 2 functioning public chargers. There were a few others behind a council building. Then they put a Covid testing centre there and within its perimeter fencing so they were inaccessible for that period. Now - to cut costs - the building is up for sale and the chargers are no longer connected to the grid. Until there is a proper commitment to the infrastructure they can urge us all and put as many ULEZ area's in as they want to but its not practical in the projected timescale.

I looked at full electric but lack of charge points and the difficulty of getting a charger at home was one of the main reasons I went with phev. Going round rural Lincolnshire watching the range deplete rapidly is something I wasn’t wanting to experience.

Prices starting at £30k… you can get two (!!!) petrol 500 Pop’s for that (£15k each). The prices of EV are just way too high.

I found when I had a Fiesta with auto wipers I had to make sure the sensor on the windscreen was clean for them to react properly. Surprising how little dirt made a difference. Might be worth a try.

Excellent review. Like you my household run around in "older" petrol/diesel vehicles. Like you I like EV's and would love one. Like you I live in rural Wales (Pembrokeshire). Main reasons I don't have an EV, cost, they are too expensive for me and range. I regularly drive from Pembrokeshire to the New Forest to visit family (4 to 4.5 hours with a 10 minuet "comfort" break) In our old Clio I can get there, run around and get back on a tank of petrol without out refuelling. If I do need fuel, it only takes 5 minuets maybe 10 if all pumps are in use and not 45. EV's are getting cheaper, and the "charging" infrastructure is improving but it's not good enough yet.

Around 2 kg of lithium in an Eevee that can be recycled when it's at the end of its life, just like with 25 kg of lead in your current car battery is recycled.. so if you're going to complain about lithium mining for 2kg you should be complaining about crude oil, which will use 10, 000kg in your car lifetime, which isn't recyclable. This is an answer to all those smug answers about I'm keeping my old car
