Wow you're awesome. Many youtubers talk a lot of nonsense and just repeat the same points over and over with slight variations, and I mean very generally I haven't a tremendous amount of videos watched but you get to it.

Great work keep it up Stoccata, very informative, like I'm talking with a professor after class and we've developed a back and forth.

Interesting stuff. Perhaps you could do a follow up video discussing where you think the target fits into this.

What about the carrying factor? It looks to me that the least effective is the most portable and vice versa. Would you still prefer the spike buckler if you had to walk around the town with it?

What about the fast draw? Alehouse, small buckler, and normal dagger would be quicker no?

It would be interesting to heard to argue alehouse dagger and broadsword or late english buckler and broadsword versus rapier and dagger against Matt Easton.

Thank-you.

One thing that you did not mention is fighting single against these other weapons with a sword of perfect length. That has usually worked out well for me. Even against longsword. I will add that I am tall and a sword of perfect length for me is about 38".

In a competition setting I tend to fight single, given the choice, as I'm not good enough with the buckler yet to consider it anything other than an impediment to grappling.

Also, do you rate the targe as low as Silver does? We see a lot of people playing with it in mixed steel around here. I think it is crap, but what do you think?

Another thing, is there a societal cultural problem with daggers and bucklers?

A sword said you were a gentleman - or better. Everybody carried some kind of a knife or dagger. But...

An obvious fighting knife, like an alehouse dagger or a really big buckler, especially an elaborate one with a spike - I think people might look askance.

Rather the difference between an off duty police officer concealed carrying a pistol - which in the United States they are required to do in many jurisdictions - and a yo-yo who feels compelled to sling an AR-15 on his back to go to CVS. [That is the chemist's, for those not from around here.]

The one is required or at least expected to carry because of societal position. The other looks like trouble looking for a place to happen.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge of cultural norms in Silver's day might weigh in? But, I seem to recall an ordinance of some kind against spiked bucklers, though that may have been local to London.

the best weapon is a spear . the alfather tells us never one step from your weapons ever take, on the road you never know when you will be in need of your spear, why did silver not tell us to carry a spear and a dagger ? keep well
