Im a Survivalist and an Outdoors Person and a Military Veteran. I encourage this young man to get some Military Grade Gear if he can. I can tell he is Homeless as he is doing odds and ends to make his money to purchase gear. He seems like a well educated and well manered young man. Bless him

I'm homeless as well, your the only person who has equipment close to mine, silicon tarps are awesome, you can pack them wet and they won't mildew like tents. I'm 53, disabled out of work accident, been homeless 9 yrs.

I was homeless as a child and have never been able to take having a home for granted, rents in L.A. have more than doubled in the time we’ve live in our rent control apartment, if anything happened? so this is a regular thought exercise for me with the added complications that come with being female. I’m always thinking about what minimal gear and technology would best serve me or anyone else. I appreciate videos like this. I’ve also watched a lot of backpacking and van build videos.

For anyone struggle some quick ideas:

Construction site offcuts,

ask politely, you maybe able to get some free "tyvek"-

ultralight hikers/campers use it because it's lightweight,

very strong and is used in building for it's insulation and water resistant properties.

It's a useful replacement for tarps, tent footprints etc.

If you can, throw it in a washing machine with some tennis balls to reduce the noise, it is a bit crinkly.

Removalist style "mattress protector" bag, the plastic is thick and useful for making gear with.

Ask around for donations of ducttape.

Many charities etc may give you first aid style emergency blankets,

the foil like kind....

or you can wash salvaged chip packets

(to remove the food scent so rodents and feral cats etc are not drawn to the food smells).

Create an insulating mat with a cheap or salvaged camping foam sleep pad, next add the emergency blanket or chip packets ducttaped together, next add tyvek. Top with whatever sheet/ bedding you have.

If possible add bug netting or make something out of close weave lacey curtains from a thrift store.

For warmth, keep a tarp or tyvek etc low, for hotter weather, use it higher for shade and air flow.

If your shelter is wet inside, it maybe due to condensation from sweat or the air you breath out.

A beenie can help cover your eyes from lights, and is easy to lift up.

Thank you so much for this my sister who is a narcissist who keeps threatening me to kick me out because I don't have a job. And forcing me to learn how to drive but I wasn't ready and im 25 yrs old and im mentally disabled. But to her she thinks everyone learns the same.. (she's small minded) Been selling alot of my things but wasn't enough. So I am glad I found your video just to be prepared!

The hardest thing is worrying others will steal your stuff. I rember my mom telling me when she was a a child she was homeless for a while back in the 40's . Her mom had run off and her dad died in the coal mines . Her brother was taking care of her best he could but they lived in the woods . That had to be hard . People were different back then, it seems today there are a lot more people with bad intentions .
I've been homeless a time or 2, but its like its just waiting for me . I'm 58 now it will be tougher . The physical part is tough but I suffer from depression and the mental is just as hard .
In the future I believe there will be more people homeless than with homes . It was like that in the past, maybe we have come full circle .
Best wishes to you . Stay safe keep warm, and know you are not alone .

I used to be homeless, and this guy is way more prepared than me or any other homeless person I ever met. A real urban survivalist. Props.

I'm ex military and lived not on streets but in the woods for couple of years and I found its not the gear you carry but the knowledge, you can go into Poundland buy a few cheap tools and manufacture a lot of items out of tin cans plastic bottles etc, it ain't going to be as good as a trangia but a coke can stove will do the job and a plastic bottles are plentiful for other things...it's about having the knowledge and creativity to repurpose everyday items people throw away, bay spice time are excellent and water resistant if you wanted to make sealable oil lamp for example, use others trash to your advantage

Those are the people who will survive when society collapses. I'll be screwed, wouldn't last a day on the streets. Cheers from L.A!!!
