I can across a modern yoyo the other day and tried to use it. I hadn’t touched one since I was in middle school, probably. I was so confused about why it wasn’t made to come back up to the hand the way the old ones did. The algorithm served me this video at the perfect time, thanks for the explanation!

My son wanted a yo-yo so I bought him a nice expensive one. We did not know you had to bind it to get it to come up lol. but it only took about 5 mins for us both to get the hang of it. this was 15 years ago.

This literally happened to me this weekend. I stumbled upon one of these newer fancier yoyos (nephews) and thought wow what a different yoyo and tried to remember what i did at least 20 years ago. I was sad because i tought i lost the trick. Thanks for bringing my confidence back

You can bind it if you tie the string then do an additional loop it still lets it spin freely but adds friction so it’s slightly easier to have it pop up.
