I had roommates like that, it was my families house so I was in charge. I told them if they didn't clean up in the kitchen and throw out the trash on a regular basis I was going to hire a cleaning service and raise the rent. They bitched but I was like, I don't eat breakfast or lunch here, I eat at work. I come home every day and have to do dishes before I can make dinner and the trash is always over flowing. That's not me. I rarely even at dinner at home. One had been injured at work, his restriction was no heavy lifting, that didn't mean he couldn't clean dishes. Eventually I met my husband and I asked them to move out and he moved in. He's cleaner than me so I never have to complain or nag him. It's so nice to not stress about the cleanliness of the house.

But you should def do something to their dogs, if their owners are so bad that they don't even feed them or go to walks with them. And locking dogs outside because they made a mess is not the answer. And ofc the cat too if it's owner can't even deal with the litter box

NTA. Your girlfriend is a gem. She saw that those housemates were taking advantage of your kind nature and the fact that you were willing to clean up after them because you didn't like living in a pig sty.
They got angry and said you manipulated them because they could see that you were no longer willing to live this way and they had lost there free housekeeper and pet sitter. No caring pet owner would allow there pets to live in there own crap and instead of cleaning up after them they just shut them outside. They are being cruel to the animals and they didn't seek any help when they thought they needed a vet, just told you hoping you would do it for them.
Report the animal abuse, also report them to the landlord for not keeping the property in a livable condition and move out. Don't forget to take pictures of your spaces to show how you left it, so they can't say you left it in a mess. Those housemates are going to really struggle to find another roommate who's willing to clean up after them, let them eat food they haven't paid for, do all there washing and look after there pets etc. They don't want a roommate they want a replacement mother. You will be so much better off away from those users!

Im a pretty messy kid, y'know, only clean the dishes when i absolutely need too, mentally battle myself to clean my room, but even I would clean the house before it got that dirty

to be honest if the landlord knew about how you were cleaning most of the house, realistically all of it he would side with you and you wouldn't have to pay any rent until another roommate arrives considering you're the only reason the property value didn't go down
