Head lice can be a very annoying recurrent concern. What to do ?

Medications are available that can kill lice but not the nits.

Permethrin 1% and ivermectin 0.5% are the ingredients to look out for.

Products mentioned - perlice or Medlice ( lotions to be applied) and Ivrea shampoo.

Single time application is not sufficient. 2-3 times overnight application with a gap of 1 week is recommended.

As mentioned , since nits cannot be killed , combing them out with special combs manually is the only option.

Do follow -

BLANKET THERAPY: Every one in the family MUST apply the overnight lotion, the same night. Else lice can keep circulating from one person to the other who are in close contact.

LAUNDRY : all the clothes ( dresses, bed sheets, pillow covers , sofa covers etc) that the person has been in contact with over the past few days MUST be washed and sun dried during the course of the treatment. ( let’s it’s a lot of work😒)

APPLICATION: most commonly done mistakes - single application , full family not applying at the same time. Donot commit these mistakes

Note - it is common for itching to persist for a few days after the treatment even if lice aren’t there anymore.
