The Secret Behind the Treasure Chests in Slay the Spire

In the Roguelike deck building game Slay the Spire, there is a floor that gives you a treasure chest. I have hundreds of hours in the game and I didn't realize for the longest time that there were 3 different chests. At first glance this may seem cosmetic but the three different chest arts tell you the secret to their contents. Most of the time you will just click on the chest and claim your relic. Some runs you will have the cursed key boss relic that gives you a curse if you open the non boss treasure chest. Knowing what kind of relic you will be given before you open the chest can determine if you would like to risk a normality curse!

my ass thought the tall chest was best and the long chest was the middle one

Y’know, I’ve never looked up the numbers for the chests, but through hundreds of hours of conditioning, the amount of dopamine I get when I get a question mark chest room directly correlates with the rarity of the chests

This is why small chest is the best one. Since it gives you the highest % chance of finding a bag of prep

To me it doesn't matter if i have the red key, and its a small chest, some Common relics are still game changing. So, unless i already have pen nib, Anchor, Bag of preparation, Bag of marbles, Happy Flower, Lantern, Perserved insect, and maybe Akabecko if i have multi-attack cards, i'm opening it.

Wow I really learnt something new about STS. I’ve beaten the heart on A20 with every character and honestly did not know this

If you are a hard core RPG player you will instantly notice this, Big oddly shaped chest = best loots, gold chest = good loots and wooden chest = common loots

Some of the best relics are common: Toy Ornithopter, Orichalcum, Pen Nib!, Akabeko, Omamori, Potion Belt, Smiling Mask, Bag of Preparation, Bag of Marbles, Happy Flower, Centennial Puzzle, Preserved Insect, Lantern...

Arguably the worst relic is Rare: Vu-Du-Doll - and Dead Branch and Girya doesn't always work in the deck.

Though in some situations a rare relic can be worse than a common relic. Bag of prep is much better than du-vu doll or stone calendar

Unfortunately I HAD TO FIGHT THE TIME Mulipulation BOSS FOR ACT 3, sooo all those chests I opened to get the crazy relics and cards to help crush with my SHIV BUILD was wasted and I lost lol, like he just stops my turn, I was SO close 😫

Are you sure😅 I'm pretty sure the game makes it so relics are given to you in a assigned order hence why seeds give you the same relics despite going to different Elites or shops Etc

The only way I've seen relics change is by getting an additional Relic so I don't know how chest would have Rarities but maybe im dumb

For an example by getting a extra chest from a question mark you might only see two of the same relics in the shop instead of 3 because you got that Relic earlier then the other run that didn't go to the event and got the free chest but regardless the relics stay the same as the seed will encounter the set pattern of relics no matter what whether they're from chest shops or Elites

Well, thank you, but this is a bit useless, because you can only see that the next step is chest, type is unknown
