DBS ruined almost every single character from z, it didn't ruin bulla yet because she is just a baby. Just remember Frieza using the dragon balls to grow a few inches, vegeta so dumb that cant even break eggs correctly, Goku that doesn't know what meditation is, Gohan that always is beaten but never trains, piccolo that became a babysitter, Trunks and Mai with their bizarre relationship, Majin Buu underutilized, Goten without any personality, Jiren sucked, Future Trunks regressed from a man to a scared little boy again, Brolly dancing etc.

That's why I stopped at GT. The new stuff, just by the way it was advertised, looked like it was made just for spectacle/cash/and for kids. Heck even GT didn't give me enough "emotion." The best we're gonna get is the DragonBall Z era for story and character.

Vegeta = Unlocked Godhood by himself, allowing him to stop being a back up dancer to Goku and getting absolutely BODIED by every major villan every damn season. He beat up Frost, murdered Ginyu in cold blood, put hands on Beerus, and stomped a God Of Destruction. And we got to actually see him genuinely love and care of his family. He put his pride and trust in Goku at the end of DBS. We never seen that from him before. He literally roasted a god for disrespecting Goku

Gohan = We actually got to see him cook and win fights ON HIS OWN, without the help of daddy or Piccolo or watch him have emotional breakdowns for no reason, or watch him get violated like he did against Buu and need saving

Goku = Lost his mind and tried to MURDER two people for murdering his own family that's not even in his own timeline. Got to see him achieve Godhood and the respect of God's across the multiverse. Got to see him go back to his roots and train with Whis, even thought we already thought he was a master and there was nothing left for him to achieve. He was a fighting MACHINE in Super and didn't back down from anything, instead of watching him give up to villians and hide behind CHILDREN. TWICE. Like he did in Z

Super did not ruin the characters at all

They gave Goku CTE in Super and that's why I can not look at Super well even if it had its hype moments. Goku has to be the most shamelessly flanderized character in the show next to Vegeta, who they also blatantly regressed. But with Goku, especially within moments in the manga it's literally him doing things Z Goku wouldn't do. Goku was telling Gohan to finish off Cell cause he was a threat, but in Super Goku is the one being told to finish off Moro because he's a threat. Knowing Toyotaro and his obsession with "callbacks" and Moro literally just being a Cell clone this was clearly a reference to that scene of Goku yelling at Gohan, and I guess the writers and editors didn't see how stupid it was to have Goku be in the position of needing to be lectured about something he should already know in a form that makes him extremely serious and methodical 🤦 Goku doesn't even feel like Goku anymore

I would’ve done the characters mentioned in super as such:

Have vegeta go through guilt for killing innocents in the buu saga and being ashamed of accepting babidis power to become evil. He can be dishonored and conflicted as he could’ve prevented buu, but instead chose his pride over doing the right thing. Maybe this causes a rift between vegeta and Bulma with them having frequent arguments with vegeta’s now brooding nature in being angry at himself causing him to lash out due to stress. This gives a chance to develop a romance that sort of comes out of nowhere. During the end of super he can become the man that goku, bulma and everyone else sees in him and his relationship with bulma can be restored. I would’ve loved to see this as we never get proper romantic development in shonen.

Goku had already been a complete character in Z. In Super he should be taken back to his roots and have him relearn the mentality of a martial artist throughout the story to become the most complete fighter, as we can have it be revealed that goku has forgotten roshi’s mental teachings and has focused more on power than technique, eventually leading to ultra instinct.

Gohan is an interesting one as the buu saga sort of tarnished his legacy as well. IMO his arc should be focusing TOO MUCH on his training as he realizes he could’ve stopped buu if he kept training. This leads him to start to pay less attention to Videl and the rest of his loved ones. Ultimately he realizes the root of his strength was always his loved ones and learns that the key to reaching your potential is not only hard work, but also having the will to protect the relationships with your loved ones.

For goten and trunks you could pretty much do anything as u said they are blank canvases but here’s what I thought of. Have trunks become saddened by vegeta and bulma’s relarionship crumbling and have Goten try and support trunks. Both can be sort of outcasted in the beginning by their family when it comes to larger threats because of their childish natures in the buu saga, and lacking proper strength. Their goal should be to surpass their fathers. Nothing crazy but it’s at least sum yk.

I hate that Goku became a heartless Idiot Man-Child. I'd argue that Vegeta is a better and more developed character than Goku in Super. Compared to Goku in Super, Vegeta is a somewhat normal, functional Person.

They genuinely turned goku into an idiot who couldn’t even count when in Z he was mature, a decent parent and always thought out - not doing more than necessary. I feel like they watched tfs abridged and made the characters just like that. Its horrible

Super was just an instrument to sell toys and other merchandise. It did not and does not, have the heart and thought put into its characters. It takes the basic traits of the characters as well as aspects of the series, and exaggerrates it to an unhealthy degree

About vegeta. I think his character arc concluded after he 100% transitioned in the fight against pure buu because vegeta's sacrifice was just act 2.
