TRIP REPORT | 12 hours on the Boeing 747! | Frankfurt to Seoul | Lufthansa Boeing 747-8i

Lufthansa Trip Report flying from Frankfurt to Seoul onboard one of the Lufthansa Boeing 747-8i on a lovely spring day.

A comfortable flight from Frankfurt to Seoul on the Lufthansa Boeing 747-8i. Even though the plane was going around 80% full, this time we weren't lucky and we got a full row. But still, the Boeing 747 offers a nice comfort. The Lufthansa cabin however is yelling for an upgrade, especially the seats and particularly the inflight system.

After some planespotting and a visit to the Lufthansa Business Lounge in Frankfurt, we boarded the B747 that would take us to Seoul. After a quick boarding, we pushed back and took off from Frankfurt. Immediately after takeoff, the turbulence started. Even with the huge size of the Boeing 747, everything was shaking inside. It wasn't until we got out of the clouds that we finally had a break.

Europe was fully covered by clouds, a cold front was crossing the continent, which gave us even more turbulence. We flew over Austria, Hungary, and Romania before entering the Black Sea. There we found even more turbulence, strong enough to fully stop the onboard service. Later, during the night, we woke up several times by strong bumps, specifically over Kazakstan.

The sunrise took place over China when we were flying over the Gobi Desert. From there we continued towards Beijing, Tianjin, and Dailan. From there we flew in direct course towards Seoul, where we landed a few minutes ahead of schedule.

About the onboard service, one clear sign of change by Lufthansa is that now they give a paper menu even in Economy class. Not necessary in my opinion, but a nice detail. We were offered 2 warm meals on this flight: dinner and breakfast. I chose the Korean-style beef for dinner. It was good. The breakfast was just 1 option which was good as well. However, Lufthansa still has the same problem: the meals are extremely small. Not enough for a 11-hour flight. Lufthansa has clearly improved the quality but is still lacking in quantity.

Happily flew the B-747 in 1980's with Northwest, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines. My favorite aircraft. Economy seats were roomier and more comfortable.
