Also Matthew 26:11 always comes to mind when I hear about the prosperity gospel. Jesus says "For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me."

I'd love to read more research on exactly what the poor means. A soteriological generalization makes me sense and also drastically changes what most Christians think "poor" means.

I love the distinction. Although I think what he was getting at is when you follow the Bible, when we all follow the Bible, we support each other and have a strong communities which give us prosperity that isolation doesn’t provide.
