Would be more accurate to say when Americans and Germans sided together against Nazis. Not every German soldier was a Nazi. Still a cool story.

Your first sentence is incorrect. Nazi's and Americans didn't join forces at castle Itter. German soldiers and American soldiers did. Not all Germans were Nazi's, and it's wrong to label them all as such.

Maj. Gangl was actually stationed at a nearby village to protect against the SS who were executing all able bodied male they encounter. He went to Castle Itter to surrender to the Americans then history happened.
