An issue I've had with these video analog to digital transfers, such as Diamond, is that the end result visibly shows a degradation of video image quality when the video is in its digital form. I find that disappointing, in that I'll use a DVD recorder to do a straight transfer from VHS tape to DVD, where there is no visible degradation with video image when the DVD is played back. The problem with having VHS transfer to DVD is that recordable DVDs are very fragile for archiving purposes . . . and transferring the DVD contents to a backup hard drive is awkward, since the DVD recorder encodes a "table of contents" and an index of VOB files on the recorded DVD.

I undertand putting an MPEG file on a disc for streaming to a PC. Does this SW create a DVD comp[atible format on the DVD that can be played using a DVD/Bluray player?

Its important to record in uncompressed avi format with as much as high sampling rate supported by the recording computer or the hardware shown here. Then we can convert to any compressed mode like mpeg4 or whatever. The original uncompressed avi file must be archieved

I notice some of the conversions from NTSC don't work too well. May have something to do with the pixels being oblong rather than square.
