As a person who was not baptised as a child . I was glad to make my own decision to be baptized at 19 after repentance and believing.

It is said, 'Repent' and be baptized.
‭Acts 2:37-38
[37] When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
[38] Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Check the greek analysis.

The practices of ‘the church’ in 3rd Century B.C. are not always congruent to the practices of the ‘first church’. If the Bible is legitimate, then we cannot add illegitimate practices. ✝️ ❤️

Mark 16
16  The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned.

First comes belief, then baptism.

Doesn't matter what the church did is what the Bible says

Wrong. You can get baptized as a child but it holds no meaning if the child did not decide to confess they are a sinner and Jesus is Lord. If someone has a specific scripture pointing to something different, please share. Just because something is common practice doesn’t make it right.

Infants are not “baptized”, they are Christened. To be truly baptized one must be “fully” submerged, as if being reborn in water and this doesn’t happen when you’re an infant.

My apologies on a few things. Didn’t mean to say “wrong” in that manner. Should have used a softer approach. Second, this is the 6th or 7th time I tried to post something. For some reason it won’t save on my phone, so hopefully it will on my iPad.

Romans 10:9-10. This one talks about confessing Jesus is Lord and God raised him from the dead (this implies you also confessed you are a sinner) and belief in your heart.

1 John 1:8-10 discusses confessing sin and Him being faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us.

How can an infant confess their sin? I do not mean going to a priest or telling a parent that they are sorry for something they did. Non-Christians can do that. A child can, depending on their understanding of sin and love of Christ.

Just saying something was an early church practice doesn’t make it correct. Look at 1 Corinthians 1:12-13. Paul doesn’t condone church division, yet that as an early church practice and still is today.

Finally, Romans 14:12 says, “So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.” I cannot stand before God representing my child (adult or infant). I must do that for myself. I will be found guilty. Jesus will then step up as my Savior. His blood will cover my sins.

Actually one more point from Romans. 3:23 and 6:23. Since we have all fallen short of the glory of God, he gave us the gift of God is eternal life. Can a gift truly be a gift if not freely given AND freely accepted?

Acts 8:36-38 a man is asking Philip to be baptized and why can’t he be and this is Philip’s response 36As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 37[And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”] 38And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. Philip is constituting a believers baptism he said IF you believe with all thine heart you may, he made his confession of faith I believe Jesus is the Son of God, then and only then Philip saw it okay to baptize him because he had believed first.

Yes, as early as we can trace it, except not early enough for apostolic scripture. For even during the very lives of the apostles, did heresy already enter the church, in Asia, Greece, Middle East and even at Rome.

The reason infant baptism doesn’t make sense to many in the west is because of our hyper individualistic mindset. If we see baptism as a covenantal sacrament that grafts you into the people of God it makes more sense. To this point, it’s clear the early church saw baptism as a replacement for the rite of circumcision. The first objections to infant baptism (Anabaptists) were not around age. The objections were around the fact that baptism had become a rite of the state. So you could have a couple who were totally carnal but receive baptism for their infant, not because they’re affirming union with Christ, but because it was like receiving a sort of birth certificate.

Does anybody even read these comments?? 😂

Anyways, my priest said this:
You make your children eat, and brush their teeth, and go to school under a governmental institution against their will… but we draw the line at baptism… the very thing that saves us. As Christians, we should believe that proper baptism saves (and infant baptism was the norm for many years)… the only reason some don’t baptize their infants now is because in reality they don’t believe it does anything because they also have to be born again from above first. The Bible does not say that they must be born from above first.

But That’s why infants can be baptized — not because they believe, but because faith can be mediated on their behalf by the Church (just like circumcision in the Old Covenant was done to babies before they could believe).

Then why did Jesus get baptized around 30 year?

Infant baptism accomplishes nothing and has no spiritual value. There is no scriptural backing of this whatsoever. Just because this doctrine is old doesn’t automatically make it right. It just means churches have been wrong about this for 2, 000 years. What is the scriptural origin and meaning of New Testament baptism? It is a public declaration of repentance, dying to one’s self, and turning to God. “John came preaching a baptism of REPENTANCE” (Mark 1:4). What sin are babies turning from? After Pentecost, nobody in the New Testament got baptized “in the name of Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” until AFTER they “believed on Him who would come after John” (Acts 19:4). Every single gospel and New Testament scripture say the same. Infant baptism is NOWHERE in the Bible. Doctrines that aren’t Biblical are not automatically right just because they’re old.

Infant baptism just doesn't make sense. Sounds like a Catholic thing.

The farthest back I can trace baptism is the Bible. I don't read anything about infant baptism, I only read believing and then getting baptized. Otherwise can the parents decide for someone to be saved? No

That was a shadow of the good things to come, a water baptism means nothing, we are baptized in the spirit through faith in Jesus Christ AMEN
