South Carolina Isn't What You Think It Is Anymore

Is South Carolina ALL crummy? Maybe not.

So the last time we talked about South Carolina, we learned a whole lot about this state. Like, we learned that the best places you can live in this state are going to be in the Greenville-Clemson metro area, up here in the Charlotte metro area in places like Rock Hill, and in the Charleston area, although living in Charleston is basically for wealthy people. You can’t afford it. There are also areas all along the coast south of Charleston to the Georgia border where rich golfers live.

We also learned the worst areas in South Carolina are in the smaller communities in the northeastern part of the state - places like Florence, Darlington, and sadly Myrtle Beach, which has a lot of crime and poverty.

And that’s a theme that resonated with South Carolina in the first video - poverty and crime. However, South Carolina is trying to make a comeback. It’s the 10th fastest growing state in the country right now, as lots of wealthy retirees are coming here in droves.

But there’s a lot more to South Carolina than that. We didn’t talk about some South Carolina history, interesting facts and the issues that people in South Carolina face today.

So that’s what we’re gonna do in this video. Kind of pick up where we left off in a more lighthearted way. We’re going to look at all of that stuff and even meet some people who LIVE in South Carolina who are gonna tell us what it's like in their state and where you could move if you relocate here. It’s time for Cornerhouse Tales: South Carolina. The Confederate State

Please, keep posting how bad S.C. is, please. To many people leaving places they don't like, moving here and trying to turn it into what they hated.

I was born in Summerville SC and received my education from the University of South Carolina. After graduating, I could never find a job in Columbia because I had no family heritage for the job. It became a place to work based on whom you knew. I was able to get jobs based on corporate ownership, When I was 46, I finally moved to North Carolina. Although I was born in SC, I never felt that I fit in. I finally made it to Winston Salem where I have retired. I discovered that there are community bands and orchestras here that I never found in South Carolina. I picked up my clarinet and saxophone and participated. I have felt more welcome here. To live in a place that makes you unwelcome is truly against the spirit in which this country was founded.

It’s hard to nail down specific predictions for the housing market because it’s not yet clear how quickly or how much the Federal Reserve can bring down inflation and borrowing costs without tanking buyer demand for everything from homes to cars.

South Carolina is not the 10th poorest state. Its the 40th richest.

As a proud native South Carolinian, this is pure b.s. We don't need anyone coming to our state and trying to change it. I love it here and resent an outsider's misrepresentation of it. Love it or leave it!

HI, folks. I'm from Pickens co. SC.
We want anyone who wishes to join us, here. It's an alright place.
That said: If your state sucked and that's what drove you out...don't bring that bullshit with you, please.
We don't want it. We have enough problems.
New ones aren't welcome.

I live in Inman, SC. I am a 100% disabled vet. Best state that takes care of its vets, I get free car tags, no tax on my car, they have a homestead tax act for lower property tax. Has one of the lowest gas tax.

Please tell everyone how bad South Carolina is. Maybe folks will stop at the border, and just keep filling up Asheville and Charlotte.

How can someone new to SC know how great SC is. I've lived here all my life and I love it here. How can you say the the people here don't care about bettering themselves and are content to live in poverty. That is totally absurd and not true. I thought this video was going to be a tribute to SC. Instead it was a slam on our great state and very derogatory. If SC is so bad why are people moving here in droves. Here in the upstate the housing industry is booming because of the influx of people moving South. Its a great state.

Sadly the new people coming to my beloved South Carolina won't be satisfied until the whole state is one giant HOA.

I live in Florence county SC... The woods basically and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Yes we are limited in income but rich in life. Sometimes a simple way of life is better...and in the country the crime isn't quite as bad as it's made out to be

Greenville is the best! My sister owns a restaurant in Fountain Inn called Sweet Catherine's, named after her best friend who passed away from complications of diabetes. I grew up in Greenville and miss it. It has changed so much for the better! A lot of the run down buildings have been redone and are now shops and restaurants. The city has put tens of millions into the streets and buildings to bring people back, and they have done an awesome job! If anyone is in Upstate SC, you have to visit Greenville!

I feel like South Carolina has so much potential if only there was less crime and better education/more high skilled workers/entrepreneurs

Been in Charleston for 35 years, and this video is on point. The education is going backwards. There are things that I'm still learning that I didn't learn in school. Literally saw Charleston changed and how they raised the property taxes on people on King street, just to put in more bars and hotels. Now the crime rate in that area is increasing.
