Great information!! Having visited recently, we can say that one of the pros are the people. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. We’re looking forward to finding our home and relocating. Thanks Lindsey!!

I moved to SC in 2018 from South Texas and I can safely say that the weather in SC is much better than the oppressive and long-lasting blast furnace of Texas. The one con would be that Texas has no state income tax where SC does, although if you are retired you are fairly safe.

I'm starting to look into moving to SC near my grandma, I live up in South Dakota, and I cant stand the winters here, it gets down to -40s in the winter.. and I hate the cold -and- I have Fibromyalgia, so it's a harsh winter for me.. Not only do i wanna see my Grandma again but I'm ready to ditch the harshness of the cold and be in the warmer state. And a few other reasons.

I was surprised to hear you say that the cost of living isn’t that cheap. I thought I remembered you touting the low cost of living in SC as being one of its main advantages? And since you asked...we are comparing SC to Northwest Arkansas. Would love to hear any opinions you might have comparing those two states. Really enjoying your videos.

Considering either SC or GA. will be snowbirding it for a few years until retirement. Need a place for my horse to stay also.

Is there a list or a website that you can share about the cost of living down there? Currently in the New England states and would love to compare and contrast the two because my husband and I plan on moving 🙂

Right now we are starting to plan on where we were going to retire. We actually had planned on retiring here in West Virginia we’re we live now. Although my husband is a Florida man that’s where he grew up. I do not like Florida for many reasons, but I think South Carolina gives us the best of both worlds, I would like to know where we could move that it’s close to the beach but not in the high cost of living zone. We are looking to keep our house payment lower will have money to put down Lord willing we wanna look in the 200s if that’s possible in five years or sooner. anyway, if you have any suggestions about housing that is lower but still near the beach. I’m all ears. We are not looking for 55+ communities. I’m raising my granddaughter so we will need family oriented home location. Thank you for all your information. It’s been very helpful.

Could you make a video about schools in Upstate? Many parents are wondering about that as bad schools could be a dealbreaker.
Also, would be helpful to know ALL the taxes SC resident has to pay, I recently found out you have to pay property tax on a CAR! What?! Never heard of that, haha

Thanks Lindsey. I'm interested in 55 and up communities. Where can I look to get an overview of what's out there in SC?

Plan on retiring there from Massachusetts. Will my Social Security check change when moving to SC? How do energy costs compare to the North? Why/how is Health Care costs more in SC?

Comparing to Texas at this point. We live in Northeast and are tired of snow and cold and crazy Liberal politics and wacky mindset. But we have minimal creepy crawlers devastating natural disasters, we don't have to water our foundation to protect it from shifting soil as in Texas.

It is maddening - just when we think we are honing in on a great place to retire with dignity someone throws in a con that eliminates our consideration. I took my basic training at Fort Jackson and I remember it being hot - yet pleasant too. We are in a quandary and getting this wrong could be devastating - making the wrong choice is not an option.

Coming from Phoenix, Arizona: I like mid-sized cities and large towns for shopping. Obviously don't 'do' snow and am not into 'the beach' save for the rare visit. What areas would be more likely to visit for a few months? Also, what are the gun laws there? Is it more pro-2A or like New York City?

Thanks for the warning! I have been researching the possibility of relocating for retirement approx. 3 years now - with countless hours spent that could have been put to better use elsewhere. I have explored the possibility of relocating us to Texas or South Carolina with more emphasis on South Carolina. But its time for a reality check and I need to husband my time more wisely moving forward.

If we sold our home here for lets say between $450.000. - $550.000 - a replacement home in South Carolina (depending on the location) would likely cost us roughly about the same with a little more square footage and very little land as compared to our 7.2 acres here. We would also likely have a two car garage in S.C. verses a large three car garage, a 16X26 garage and 5 outbuildings that we have here now. Perhaps our property taxes would be lower in S.C. but its all relative in a negative way since we have much more here verses the average purchase in S.C. When all is said and done I strongly believe we would be in the negative moving to S.C. which makes all this hyped up savings promoted by Madison Avenue type promoters of and for S.C. to be nothing less than a smoke screen feeding the buying frenzy.

Then we would get hit with whopping personal taxes on vehicles and God only knows what else in S.C. My research tells me that we would more likely than not be paying more in taxes and other hidden charges in S.C. than if we just stayed put and improved our current living environment. Then of course there is also the cost of relocating our belongings to include two classic cars which will likely be a $10, 000.00 + - move when the dust settles.

Then there are the creatures - Yea, the creatures! Spiders, deadly snakes, alligators just chomping at the bit to kill and consume your precious pets - and maybe even you if the mood is right! And what about those mosquitos, no see-sums, termites out to gobble up your home and palmetto bugs (alias cockroaches) large enough to mount a saddle upon - Yikes!! As I have said before in various places on line - "The writing is on the wall". Yes, there is a feeding frenzy involving irresponsible decisions being made at city hall that will forever negatively impact the majority of South Carolina.

Developers are gobbling up valuable land like Thanksgiving dinner and building homes stacked so close together that you can shake your neighbors hand just by opening your window and reach into their living room. I have referred to this as "packing them in like sardines" or "homes stacked together like cord-wood". Then of course you have the greedy realtors who are tripping all over each other on YouTube and elsewhere taking full advantage of the feeding frenzy laughing all the way to the bank!

Frequent realtor buzzwords include but not limited to are as follows; So, whether your moving in 9 or 90 days give us a call - I am your friend in real estate - Oh and what about the hand gestures such as the prayer posture and placing the hand / hands on the heart ... hum. Then you have the clowns with the cutesy little remarks theatrics and melodramatic body movements as though their auditioning for an Oscar - And what about the traffic cop realtor with hands flailing all over the place as though their directing traffic on a construction site. And the saddest one of all I think is when they tell you that all this growth is wonderful and exciting - and will benefit the communities. How does overcrowding, insane traffic, crazy out of state drivers, rising taxes and other costs of living - and rising crime in some areas equal a benefit to communities? Translation; We are making money hand over fist and really don't care what our selfishness is doing to the state of South Carolina. We will ride this wave as long as we can get away with it - and to hell with the locals! Sad - so very sad.

Bottom line: All of this excess is greedy, insane, irresponsible growth!

Now in all seriousness - most any story has its a loser - and the losers in this money game are the locals in these communities that were once quaint and rather special. What is truly sad in all of this is that all this greed and irresponsibility is currently and will continue to inflict irreversible harm to communities until it all crashes down like a "house of cards" - this is an absolute certainty! This state is also clearly being overrun by flaming liberals - and anyone with enough insight, wisdom, and common sense to fill a thimble knows what this means. Yes, they are moving in with their utopian unconscious mindsets hellbent on flipping S.C. on its head with their idiotic ideology. The ultimate goal for these fools is of turning S.C. into the seething cesspools they escaped from in the first place.

As I have stated before - I am saddened that we will not be relocating to South Carolina but at this stage of our lives we absolutely cannot afford to make such a costly blunder by relocating there. I am certain my wife and I would have experienced the - "What the hell have we done" moment.
