My previous dog never slept in my bed because he would growl if I tried to move him or touched him. I had to be continually re-training him for fifteen years; his behaviour improved a lot, but he always had quite a temper. My current dog sleeps with me. She's very docile and, apart from hogging the bed, she's never given me serious trouble. Every dog is different and also, as owners, we learn how to do better. My second dog would have been an amazing first dog and my first dog would have benefited from me having more experience.

They're fluffy and adorable. That alone is a yes.
Plus, I'd rather be woken up by their faces nudging me than an alarm clock.

I was homeless with my dog for a few years and she always slept in my sleeping bag. Now that we have our own place she sleeps on my queen sized bed with me. She tries to get as close as possible and tends to push me to the edge though haha.

i trained a dog witg seperation anxiety where the owner slept in the living room and i had the dog in the kitchen. the dog learned that they didnt need to be with their owner 24/7 and that the owner wasnt gonna abandon them. they stopped pulling on the leash and the owner was happier cause they were able to sleep and take their dog for walk without the dog having to take control of the situation. the owner was in control.

If I’m taking short naps, I have no problem with my dog sleeping in the bed. To me it’s good knowing my dog wants to be close to me when I’m at my most vulnerable, and I think it’s good for bonding. However at night, he’s not allowed to get on the bed when I’m in it. A 90 pound German Shepherd gets hot easily and when he jumps off the bed, it always wakes me up.

Well said. If the behaviour is negative and affecting your life, you need to change it. If the behaviour doesent bother you or cause other problems, you're good.

My sweet dogs (recently passed away) comforted me through the night. I loved reaching over to pet one, or falling back to sleep to their gentle snoring. 💔💕

Crate training from birth is a game changer. If you can do it - DO IT.

I had to give up my dog it broke my heart but her new family tells me how well behaved she is and I feel so proud of her. Plus I still get pics.

Its crucial for a dog's survival to be well trained. I know that family will keep her for the rest of her life. If she had behavioral issues there could be some question of that.

You don't just train them for you. You do it for them.

Definitely love having my dogs with me on the bed. I tend to get very cold in the middle of the night. I appreciate their cuddles. 😊

My dogs have their own beds and sleep there, but they often sleep on the bed with me. The important distinction is that they know its not their bed, and that they will listen when told to leave.

I crate trained my boy since he was 8 wks old. Now at 2 yrs old I give him the option to sleep with me, but sometimes, in the middle of the night, he ditches me for his crate lol😂

Just got a puppy with some separation anxiety. I play with her before bed and cuddle with her before bed but she sleeps in the crate and even after 3 days im noticing progress with her whining and anxiety

I love this answer. We just lost our puppy, but we had zero problems with him sleeping in our bed. It was something we loved him doing, and he was still way too young for there to have been any behavior problems. That said, I would give anything at all to go back in time and have him sleep with us just one more time. RIP buddy, I’m sorry the world was so cruel to you.

my doggie (pallas) loves telling me when its bed time, she loves cuddling up. and a most of all it bring the most joy to my life waking up beside my pup...its all about the little things, like waking up and she comes and lays over my chest, gives me a kiss n says goodmorning, but then again shes a total princess

I tried to crate train my 6lbs chihuahua. She broke herself out and happily snuggled next to me. Haven’t tried since then. She’s too smart for her own good.

My pups are kennel trained so if I don’t want them sleeping with me, they just sleep in their kennel. Some nights I just need to be able to starfish and spread out and my pups are like velcro when sleeping lol stuck right to my sides. So when I need a break, they have no problem sleeping in their kennel but 8 times out of 10 they do sleep with me. I’m glad I crate/kennel trained them when they were young.

I grew up with a family that always crate trained dogs and taught us at a young age that their 'box' was their safe space to be in and that you don't bother them when they're there. This meant that our dogs always had their own little den to go to for naps or when they wanted peace from family events / parties / or little kids who wanted to dress them up in human clothes.

I'm super grateful for this, since I've been crate training my own dog since I got him. He's great in his kennel and often goes there on his own for naps or just quiet time away from the office noises. He's just over a year old now and the kennel has an 'open-door' policy at night now, meaning he can choose whether he wants to sleep in there, on the bed, or on the floor ( mostly due to temperature issues with the heat waves this summer, tbh! ) since I trust him not to be too much of a butt at night with poor behaviour. I'd say it's an even split between all three locations!

I'm super proud of him tbh! I will always always always suggest people kennel / crate-train their dogs when they're puppies at night and then let them have that choice when they're used to the kennel and consistently have great behaviour with it.

My pup was from a shelter. All I knew is he was from out of state in their kill shelter, was originally on the streets, around 8 months, and perd in fear when we first met.

I didn’t crate him outside of upset stomach issues. First night I carried him to my bed. Next day he went from still and quiet to running and jumping and playing. But was still touch adverse. Took 1 and a half years for him to fully welcome pets and cuddling. We went at his pace. He has been completely worth it. He sometimes leaks in fright but no outright accidents. Overall a great dog.
