I've done this for a while but to optimize your Kelvin further I recommend cutting a few trees for him so he doesn't waste time cutting trees and just stores the logs in your holders

New(ish) command dropped, when selected kelvin does everything, if there are empty holders he will fill them, if you place a defensive wall he will sharpen it, if a wall is damaged he will repair it, etc etc

this is exactly what i do. except ill chainsaw a few trees to get started. makes progress quicker. i have 4 locations to take kelvin to and send logs with ziplines at a central log storage. they bounce at end and go straight into holders, carts around to catch any stragglers.

I like to bring him to the middle of the woods, tell him to clear a 20m area. Then tell him to collect logs. He clears the area a lot faster than just filling the holders and if I need logs all I have to do is turn around as he’s going to town lol

We have a base set up here with a couple of zip lines going from the woods to behind an electric fence in to a wood storage yard with 3 large log holders in it.
We call it the Barbie Beach House (and insist Barbie is short for Barbarian…. XD)

I have him only on collect. I chop those trees down much faster. He collects as i chop. After enough chopped, i start roping the logs to base he already collected into another several log carriers. When you have enough to build for like 5 to 10 minutes, go do that. Then return and kelvin will have every carrier filled up. Send those to base, repeat if still trees really nearby

Tip1: you don't need to tell him to "stay", just to full the containers, that's it.
Tip2: if you tell him to "fill the containers", and while he is doing that, you take a couple logs off to work with before he can fill all the containers, he will search out more trees to cut and gather until the containers are full.
I.e. he will not stop gathering logs until his job is complete.
I did this and built a base almost the size in this video without ever taking an axe to a tree.

If you didnt know, trees will respawn, but not in the same spots where stumps are. Allegedly it is best to remove the stumps to create room.

Eventhough opening caves adds more Mutants to the world (and Raids) it is So worth it to obtain the Rope Gun.
What i liked doing was having the rope end by Log Holders, so when you zipline logs, they would immediately get added to the log holders when it reaches the end, so you could chop down like 10 or so trees and just zip them all to your desired location, i had a whole system set up because i needed to move further and further from my base just to have enough logs to build what i was working on...Then i stopped playing because the constant raids got on my damn nerves and even with an exploit that allowed Ammo to respawn at the crashed chopper wasn't enough to make me keep playing.

This is where sleds comes in, you craft atleast two then let him fill it or get a rope gun attach to where you get your logs then at the other end attach where you will to put/use those logs

he will carry 2 logs if you tell him to drop them here or bring to me. if you ask him to maintain the area with stuff under construction, he carries 1 at a time and assembles 1 piece at a time.

I feel like Kelvin is a bad ass he literally walked away from his eardrums exploding and didn't care he survived a helicopter crash and also survived the air pressure from the gunshots if you agree then reply with "Kelvin=badass"

I uses this all the time especially when i like having forested areas near me to keep a nice scenery although you dont need to tell him to stay first

I built my base ALMOST in the exact same location, just further down on the beach. I did exactly this, just I made log holders down at my base with a Zipline right above so I could chop logs and shoot them into my base to be collected.

you could also use a log sled if you want, could save time and resources

Yo brother I don't know if you know this or not but you don't even need to tell him to stay, just tell him to get the logs and fill the holder's just keep it in the back of your head how many you have set up and go back when you believe he's done. You don't even really need to do that even. All you'd need to do to save time is layout all the structures you plan to build for your playthrough and have him build the structure's and he'll build every single structure while you go out and get the tools and gear needed for the end of the game.
