Mark Sargent 'All you need is a Lab Coat'

Показать описание
In his final show Mark Sargent claims the authority of science comes from the white lab coat, because the white lab coat represents 'intelligence'. Yes, seriously- that is his argument.

I am so glad this series is finished, I lost IQ points watching all 14 of these.

There's another white coat Mark should wear, it has long sleeves that do up at the back and is usually accompanied by some big guys in regular white coats.

“Because you’re a shameless poseur with delusions of grandeur?” What a finish! You deserve a break, Bob!

Mark Sargent is one of our greatest explorers; he has discovered the limits of smugness.

Not an actor, a science communicator. Big difference, Mark!

Here's another Shakespeare quote for Mark the Muppet master. " It is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" Nice work Bob.

How much do you want to bet that Bill Nye actually understands calculus, and that Mark does not.

Bill Nye has more intelligence, and more integrity, in his toenails than Sargent will ever have.

"The coat of credibility" as opposed to the " t shirt with your own name on it" of incredible ridiculousness.

One important purpose of the white is to quickly see spillage on it, an extremely important tactical purpose!

Mark @ 13:05 _"It's to make a point: that not everything is what it first appears to be"_
Regarding the shape of the earth, what it _first appears_ to be is flat! It's only after looking more closely and from different locations that we've discovered that it was a globe. "Do not go by first appearances" is practically the scientists' mantra; it's flat earthers who always go for the first glance. We've tried to explain this to them again and again (sun glare anyone?), but it never seems to sink in.

So _again!_ Mark displays his amazing talent for projection. I think I've pointed it out 3 times now. I'm usually a big fan of Hanlon's Razor, but I'm starting to think it's deliberate.

Also: _wooo, we're free! :D_ Thanks, Bob, for suffering through all his nonsense so we don't have to.

Believes that an engineer is unfit for science education but, at the same time, not worried that all his fellow FE "cosmologists" are high school drop out...

And don't get him started on protective safety glasses. He may go postal.

My favorite line is at 10:22 referring to Nye: “No published papers, no graduate work”

Really now? You are requiring as a prerequisite to being an actual scientist the publishing in scientific journals and further education?? And you don’t get the irony??

I've gotten into restrictive areas by caring a clipboard. Not even trying, I was let in the area.

Oh, and my degree is a bachalors in Computer Electronics - networking from Central Connecticut State University. What relevance does that have with anything? Nothing. I do feel like I have a different, more educated view of life and how to learn for graduating college.

No one told me about the globe. I was taught how to think for myself and how to ask questions. I remember in the 3rd grade asking myself why the globes always had a tilt. playing around with a light source and positioning the globe in an orbit, I started understanding what I was seeing. The following week, I was taught about the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. I took that knowledge and applied to my globe experiments. I then learned more about the tilt. THIRD GRADE, ON MY OWN. No one told me any conclusions, but gave enough information to want to explore the ideas more. Is that indoctranation?

Marky needs to have his marbles checked, because I think he lost them. Flerfers understand nothing.
I like you, Bob. You're smart, you're awesome. No lab coat needed.

Bob, I look forward to whatever video you put out. There's no point doing something if you don't enjoy it.

I wore a lab coat from when I got my first proper job at 19 as a lab tech.... it protected me from fire, acids, etc etc.

Now I mainly wear high vis because I am not working with chemicals which are dangerous to get on the skin or fire (and I work around very large machines)... and I don’t have to look clean after work or in meetings.
I am also a volunteer firefighter and I odd job as a security guard when I am not getting work anywhere else (or money starts getting tight).

I haven’t seen Neil deGrasse Tyson in a lab coat all that much... David Attenborough... or pretty much any Physicist, cosmologist, geologist, geophysicist, geographer, surveyor or pretty much anyone who will tell you about the universe or the shape, composition, location, speed etc of the earth.
The people I see in white coats are usually chemists, biologists and medical personnel all of whom can get really nasty stuff on them.

Everyone else who wants to look impressive wears a suit.

Don't give up, Bob! I love listening to you. Good science and quite soothing voice make you my favorite "debunker".

"Scientists, what a bunch of fakers, what have they ever done for me?" types Mark on his iPhone. He promptly sends the message across the 4G network and onto the internet. "Hmm, gotta go out later, better check the weather" XD
