Hello one and all and welcome to another Flat Earth Friday where Flat Earth man of the moment Mark Sargent has one of his famous Flat Earth Clues dissected by yours truly.

In my opinion it is something that the flatties just cannot explain. Long haul Southern Hemisphere flights!!

Enjoy the show!!

Here is Marks original video:

Link to 2015 longest commercial flight:

Thank you guys, I will see you all on Tuesday for the return of a Globebuster!!

Dan's opinions shared in this video are supported by verified facts (whether scientific or general) and they should be treated as just that: opinions. All critique and humour are addressed to the words and actions of individuals and not to the individuals themselves, under the Act of Free Speech.

Tells people to use GPS to measure distances. Yes Mark, you're telling them to use a system based on orbiting satellites, with receivers that give you your position on a sphere and that then calculate distances between locations using maths that assumes they are on a sphere.

Top thinking there.

Having lived and worked in 4 of those cities I am happy to confirm he's talking absolute and perfect bollocks

The test I stand by is: How does the flat earth map allow a person to sail counter clockwise around the Antarctic while keeping the coastline on the left?

Mark Sargent says, "Do your own research", but what he really means is, "No need to do any research, just believe me instead"

Yes, you heard it here first people. Mark Sargent thinks that it was impossible to fly and successfully land at the correct destination before GPS went live.

A few things I learned from video:
1. Mark S is not a frequent flyer
2. Mark S doesn't understand how modern airlines operate (airport hubs, operational efficiency)
3. Mark S can't find trips online

A great laugh on a Friday afternoon 😂😃👍

Mark Sergeants (and all flat earthers) 2 golden rules

1. Ignore all rational thought, scientific principles and logic

2. When forced to face rational thought, scientific principles and logic, refer to rule 1.

So using a travel web site geared towards finding the CHEAPEST air travel spits out a bunch of flights with multiple connections, instead the the more expensive direct routs.

Shocking...

What does the G stand for, Mark?

Mark Sargent sounds like a 5 yo explaining how Santa fits down the chimney.

I have a close friend who works on ships for a living and had to learn navigation and charts and whatnot.
The other day I mentioned the flat Earth people to him and said "they think you guys are all lying, you know. Hiding the truth of the Flat Earth."
He laughed and said "I love the fact that they think people can keep secrets."
😖
I thought that was a brilliant point.

As a Sea Captain who understand and executed great circle sailing in real life, it made me feel stupid just by listening to Mark's Argument.. Sailing on flat earth model doesnt make any sense at all..

Nicely covered Dan. Some Flat Earthers still refuse to understand that flight routes are dictated by demand, economics, safety and Cabotage laws.

The latter protects the air rights of individual countries.

You can't take a Qantas flight from London to Paris. We can't take British Airways from Sydney to New Zealand.

They must stage through their own country.

Only airlines such as Qantas, Air New Zealand, South African Airways, Lan Chile are permitted to fly the Southern routes direct and they do.

So much for Flat Earthers doing their "research"

They just talk total nonsense. No wonder Mark still lives at home with his Mum. No self respecting woman wants a man like that.

Mark Sargent was "professional" video game player, so professional that you can't find any evidence of him playing anything.

I've been an airline pilot since way before GPS and did many ocean crossings with INS/IRS only navigation, and aside from the platform drifting a couple of miles (due to it referencing exclusively internal gyros during the ocean crossing with nothing external to update the position) the flight times, courses and headings flown, and distances involved were the same as using GPS given identical atmospheric conditions (altitude, temperature, and wind velocity) and cruising Mach.

Not fully understanding the economics of hub and spoke airlines and yield management strategies (especially significant in the case of the Emirates operation) in no way constitutes evidence for a flat earth. The reason there are very few nonstop flights between Australia and New Zealand and South America (or Africa and much of the Southern Hemisphere) is due to...stand by for the reality of the situation; brace yourselves...the lack of demand in those markets that could be served economically with nonstop flights.

Flying very long distances nonstop is inherently economically challenging. Some routes have enough demand to justify their existence; normally this requires a large number of high dollar business class passengers, though airlines like Emirates aggressively augment that by flying extremely large aircraft (think A-380) with a huge number of cheap economy seats installed to add to the higher yielding first and business class cabins. (Hence my utter lack of incredulity why the first proposed itinerary contained a quite out of the way stop in Dubai.)

For the information of anyone actually interested, it is possible to reference a page in the Flight Management System (Flight Management Guidance System in Airbus products) that can tell us the exact latitude and longitude of each input to the system. They are normally extremely close (within feet) of each other. I can see at a glance where every inertial platform thinks it is (there are three; the 737 has two), where each of the two GPS systems think they are, and where ground updating thinks it is when available (this requires the airplane tuning up to 5 DME stations on the ground and triangulating; it's obviously not available over oceans). From all this the aircraft calculates its position and there are procedures that we routinely fly that require it to be within 0.1 nautical miles. If I really want I can turn off the GPS or ground station updating to the aircraft position, and though there's no reason to routinely do so for oceanic operations, the navigation would work out just fine.

Finally Dan, thank you for pointing out the very obvious effect of wind on flight times. Winds well in excess of 100 knots are very common at altitude and can increase flight time by huge percentages.

I hope this helps put the navigational issues in context.

I work in a geophysical lab. We do research. These flat earthers look around the internet and call it research. It's absurd.

I LOVE how these guys are so scientifically illetrate, that the guy thinks a VERY SPECIFIC set of cities in a flightmodel supposed to prove a flat earth, that doesnt even work if you go north enough, as he says in his own video, is factual evidence of a flat earth. newsflash, if your model doesnt work for all flights, then your model doesnt work at all
