5 steps to Instant Ambient with the OPZ

The OPZ is Teenage Engineering's most immediate instrument. OP1 doesn't come close in that respect. Pocket operators are also immediate but lack the depth and adaptability of the OPZ- it's that perfect in between.

This video demonstrates how I came up with an "instant" ambient track using the OPZ. I say "instant" because I'm doing a lot of unpacking in this video, giving you a step by step play of how I came up with each part.

There's also a Hologram Microcosm guest appearance to give FULL meaning to the term INSTANT.

Shoutout to (at) alliebrowniest (Instagram) for the animation!

Nice video. There are some secret parameters for the tape track to make it more ambient friendly than just stutter. You can adjust the dry/wet by holding track and adjust the red dial to dial in the impact of a tape fx. You can loop by having the tape note hold to create some nice shimmer as you adjust the speed up/down

The major thing that I love the opz for (with the exception of the drum sampling which I absolutely hate on the OP1 at times) is that you can add and delete whilst preserving patterns. I love both instruments but the Z is just easier to make mistakes with

Really cool to see how you approached ambient stuff on the Z. I have been experimenting with this recently too.

Beginner question: Did you connect the OPZ directly through the Microcosm or did you use a DAW?

Thanks for the info! I progressed from the Pocket Operators to the OP-1, and finally now the OP-Z last week. This guy is incredible and I'll happily go back through all your prior videos. In another video (I tried very hard to find it just now) you mentioned having a channel on Twitch (? I think) and I have always avoided a (sigh) new thing to get a login for, and to spend time with, but I would love a community like the one you mentioned. Could you please link me to that video, or to that channel? I would love to give input and get some critiques if possible! Cheers, dude, I appreciate what you're doing!
