How to Fix YouTube Step 2 Monetization Error | Get Adsense Approved in 2024

This video walks you through our experience in 2023 of how to fix error in YouTube Monetization step 2 application process. You get a YouTube Adsense step 2 error when Google disapproves your Adsense account for YouTube monetization. YouTube lets you fix error in monetization in AdSense. You can resubmit your Google Adsense account for approval again.

The typical error message in Google says that you need to fix some issues before you can use Adsense for YouTube. In our case, we did not have any duplicate personal accounts as it happens with many YouTubers. To solve the rejection issue due to a duplicate account, close your Adsense account under the same name. Have one Adsense account under your name. Associate this account with your YouTube channel.

In our case, we had an individual Adsense account. This account was successfully associated with our YouTube channel. Then, we decided to open a separate business account. Both business and individual Adsense accounts used the same first and last names for a contact person.

However, the business Adsense account was under our business company’s name. Yet, we still got a step 2 error during our YouTube monetization application.

As it stands now, you cannot get in touch with Google Adsense by chat, phone or message. Google Adsense only gives you the option of asking the community for help. This is obviously not the same as talking to Google directly. The only way to get in touch with Google Adsense is through YouTube chat support.

We closed our individual account and tried to resubmit the request to associate our business Adsense account later. Yet, we got a step 2 error message again. The final solution was to ask YouTube chat support for help. YouTube got in touch with Google Adsense on our behalf. Our problem was solved 3 weeks later.

Possible solutions for a YouTube step 2 error message are:
(1) Close all duplicate Adsense accounts and wait 2-3 weeks for your accounts to truly close on Google’s end
(2) Make sure to fill out all necessary information in your Adsense account (tax forms)
(3) Get in touch with YouTube chat support, if you can
(4) Ask someone to get in touch with YouTube chat support on your channel’s behalf. You will need to add someone as a manager, who has access to YouTube chat support. This person must have a monetized YouTube channel.
(5) Use a different name for a contact person on your business Google Adsense account

Keep in mind, waiting for your problem to get solved results in foregone YouTube ad revenue.

Step 2 Error is different for everyone's YouTube Channel and varies by what their YouTube Channel is about. My YouTube Channel is about Gaming, and there are specific guidelines I need to follow for Gaming and monetization, such as I can't have all capitalized letters in my videos. I found one video (so far) that the entire video title was all capitalized. I am currently changing the title to lowercase letters, going through all my videos, and double-checking. And yes I can recall the moment I made an adsense account years ago but I totally forgot the password and the back up email 😓 ! I too am stuck at Step 2.
From reading and watching YouTube videos here is what I have come up with
I think a lot of people have another Adsense account they forgot about and need to close- like you did. I’ve seen videos where people close the account and apply again and get approved in a few hours.
Another thing I see is people applied for Adsense outside of YouTube studio (directly through Adsense) but didn’t have a website- this is what I did months ago thinking it would speed up monetization when I got there. big mistake. So I deleted that Adsense account and made a fresh application again through YouTube studio.
Now I am still stuck but I think it may be because my YouTube channel is a “brand account” I have no idea how I got a brand account….😢
I wish there was a way to get help.
Everyone is tweeting them or seeking feedback in YouTube studio and they just say to keep waiting.
They need to have a FAQ specifically for YouTube Adsense saying here are possible reasons and how to fix them.
If they have to go to a person to be resolved how long is the wait right now? Give us all tickets and let us know where we are in line.
Instead, as you mentioned, they keep sending us to a page that talks about getting your website approved!
It is so frustrating!

But I don't think you've really told us how to fix it. Sounds like youtube just fixed it for you?
When I speak to the chat support, they just say that they can't see the reason and that I need to read the policies again. But as you mention, that has little to do with YouTube.

I have a similar case as I am switching from Personal account to Business - Monetization on Personal account worked just fine. I have closed my personal account. I got rejected on my business Adsenese account (which in the past 5 years ago I tried to use for a website but did not get approved - which was a mistake). I have close that account as well, opened brand new account on new email account, also got rejected. YouTube support is absolutely not helpful, they just repeat the same generic answer.
Was there any magic word that got you to get YT support to raise ticket with AdSense?

Hi I just got eligibility to become monetized on my channel and accidentally used the same name for a existing adsense account when submitting for the second step. Later that day I received a message saying "You already have a Google publisher account. Sign in to your existing account to access AdSense. Or close your other accounts and submit your application to create an account again", The thing is I don't want to close my original account that is already monitizied I just want to use a different name when will I be able to change it? We are unable to get Youtube Support to redirect our ticket to Google AdSense's internal team.

Since moving abroad, we had to change our Google AdSense account.

We have a 1.1M YT channel and made around 25K on montly Ad revenue.
However, every attempt to apply a new Google Adsense account has been disapproved.

50 thousand dollars has been lost and 60 days have passed.

I no longer know what to do.

Hi,
I was denied by google adsense for 3 times. Still not approved. I contacted support team, they said to apply again after 90 days. Should i apply it after 90 days and can you tell me how to fix the error. The error was your accout is not meat our program criteria.
