I once had a $1 dollar bill and the serial number consisted of 0's and 1's; I checked and it happened that it was a binary number. I placed it on eBay and it sold for over $7.00.

Around 1965 I received a 5 dollar bill back as change. However this 5 dollar has red serial numbers and it has 1953 date on it and the green color is a darker green. During the 1970s I took it to a bank. They told me this bill is out of circulation. They advised me to save it. It is not worth a lot of money.

I'd like a dollar to have the purchasing power of a dollar again!

A customer handed me a blue big 1 dollar bill from 1929 once and I was stupid enough to mention that loud and he quickly took it back.

I have a double stamped bicentennial quarter that I've had since 1982. And I found it while vacuming out my mom's 74 Plymouth Duster. It's kept in my safe with my precious metals for my retirement. As of the last pricing it was worth approx $2300.

My wife’s parents passed away 6 days apart from each other a few years ago. In their safety deposit box was a $1, 000 bill amongst other items. I thought that was cool. We still have it.

Just checked my wallet and found a poor condition $1.00 star note but looked it up and it's not a rare one at all so it's likely only worth 100 cents on a good day 😞

So ... who actually spends thousands of dollars to buy/collect stuff like this? Speculators who think they can sell it to someone else for an even bigger price?
Me: "Look at this! I spent $10, 000 to get this dollar bill with a serial number that's Pi to 7 places! Isn't that cool?"
Everyone else:

It's hard to hear you unless I crank my volume and then your ads are excruciatingly loud.

Like what @Roy Tee said:
You can collect all kinds of stuff but when that particular collectables market drops or interest fades or even if there is war or pandemic and nobody wants to buy your junk then your left with it.
I'll add that when the collection is 💰💰, your left with money and most if not all people will still take it collectable or not.

Trusting some one to tell you what you have and what it's worth is the biggest thing. I have been saving old dated bills for decades, along with every star note you can find. Now what do you do with all you have?

I own two laundromats. I handle hundreds on thousands of singles each year. I’m going to start looking closer. I have found silver certificates amongst my cash and have found junk silver coins among my quarters.

Looks like there’s another opportunity here. Thanks for posting this

i still have some moderately crisp old notes.. $1, $2, $5.. ive sold them off over the years, as i bought a couple batches at auction back in the early 2000's.. didnt even pay 2x face value, and have made.. 8x face off them or so now ?
Silver Certificates from 30's to 50's.. and one "$1 Funny Back".. i think its 1928 ?? and larger than others..
i might have to have a couple i still have graded..
