Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are more common than you think, with over 1 million new cases daily, yet there's still such a stigma around them. We dive into the history (and stigma) of STIs, touch on the disturbing American Plan you've probably never heard about, and look for explanations for the the rise in STI rates in the US. Eradicating stigma means open conversation, transparency and understanding, so let's talk about sex — animated!

nurse here of over 20 years, I remember insurance, medical centers and clinics defering patients away without treatment. Now we have integrated preventative screenings with open questions to destigmatize this issue. Things have definitely improved, but I still hear patients share stories of places still living in the dark ages. Amazing video Thought Cafe ❤

I couldn't be happier to see us cover this topic, and to take part. It really needs to be talked about, the stigma is still so pervasive, and so harmful <3

It's the same for every topic: Funding and Education is key.

I see it as unfortunate that the funding in these programs has gone down, we should fund them more, so these infections can be reduced. The promiscuous culture certainly doesn't help, though, for the ones that are passed sexually, which is where the "more education" part comes into play. I believe we need to teach more adults, the idea being that they'll be able to pass on the information to their children.

Yes. But also reduce number of partners, wear s condom (no glove = no love), and push for hpv & mpox vax as well as PrEP. Theres also mutual masterbation and frottage which are quite safe. Even oral is safer than receptive anal which is by far riskiest.
But yes, stigma doesn't do anything. This doesn't mean we shouldn't encourage in a sensitive & supportive way to reduce the number of partners tho right?
