My mom worked for the Chicago Board of Health in the 70's. She did contract tracing amongst pimps, prostitutes, their partners, and johns and their partners. She conducted interviews and sat in on examinations. Women have a tough time knowing that they have syphilis because the infection is internalized. A man will see and experience changes immediately and will know something is wrong. One thing women will know something is off will be a terrible smell and discharge. Women need to be taught to recognize these changes in their ph. Women need to practice better hygiene and pay attention to their bodies. The fact that men will still be intimate with a women who reeks down there and has a odd colored discharge is astounding. The fact that we are seeing a rise in congenital syphilis is worrisome. We are literally back in the 1800's where there was no cure for syphilis. This should not be happening in a 1st world country.

It's absolutely true that quick, hassle free testing is needed! In Pierce County, WA, Tacoma has almost no drop in clinics. Thr health dept used to have a program to stop by in evenings that they ended. The process is arduous now and when monkey pox came around they said GET IT FROM YOUR DOCTOR even though (this is so stupid) THE HEALTH DEPT WAS THE ONLY ONES WITH ACCESS TO THE VACCINE!
