Will a sexually transmitted infection go away on its own? How do I know if I have one? How often should I get tested? If you've ever asked yourself any of these questions, you're not alone. STIs are a lot more common than you might think, and it's high time we started talking about them. Thanks to our partners at Hologic, OB/GYN Dr. Kameelah Phillips is here to clear up what's fact and what's fiction when it comes to STIs.

Honestly, it's refreshing to see an expert be so straightforward about this topic, learned a lot!

Huge omission is the partner must be treated too or will be reinfected. Risk of STI goes up exponentially with number of partners your partner has had. Best prevention is honest communication and diligent barrier protection which less embarrassing than treatment

There are STI's that are not curable though. I wouldnt trust any partner these days. Use condoms until your new partner (and yourself) is screened. Rates of Herpes has skyrocketed, and HIV in some gay communities is scary high.
