The echo of swift footsteps resonated through the corridors as Gate Master Jurokk approached, asking what had happened to Mace Windu and his team. But Darth Vader, consumed by his mission, ignored the question and inquired about Shaak Ti’s location. Unaware of the impending doom, Jurokk mentioned she had gone to meditate after they felt a disturbance in the Force. At that moment, the Gate Master saw the thousands of clones entering the Temple behind Anakin. Misunderstanding the situation, he asked Anakin how bad things had become. In response, the air filled with the dreaded hum of Vader’s lightsaber, its blade piercing through the Gate Master’s skull in a blaze of blue plasma.

The first Jedi killed in Order 66 was Anakin himself. The death of Anakin, the birth of Vader.

I remember seeing this in theaters as a kid when it first came out. I was like wow cool. But now I’m imagining Anakin slashing through the Jedi temple with the gore from The Boys.

I loved the scene in the novelisation where the gatemaster asks Anakin what has happened, before feeling something touch the underside of his jaw before dying. Anakin ignited his light saber, sending it up through his brain killing him instantly as Anakin replied "Something terrible."

I imagine that wasn’t the first Jedi killed though. That would make pretty much zero sense. The Emperor ordered the widespread commencement of Order 66 while Anakin was still in the room. So reason would have it that there were Jedi dropping like flys across the galaxy whilst Anakin was still preparing to assault the temple and/or on his way there.

If Anakin was truly as tuff as he thought he was then he wouldn't have needed "Thousands" of Clone Troopers to Help him kill a bunch of children and a couple of Jedi.

I think the power and charisma of Pre-Mustafar Vader is portrayed better in the novelization then in the movies, you realize that he didn’t just slaughter a couple of helpless padawans and younglings. He systematically eliminated masters, knights, temple guards, anyone who stood against him stood no more. The clones did their part yeah, but Vader led the slaughter, easily dueling against the Jedi Battle-master one handed as he choked out his favored student.

Also you can see Vader absolutely roasting the people he murders on Mustafar, “We were promised a handsome reward!” “I am your reward, don’t you find me handsome.”
“Lord Vader I would like to be the first to welcome—“ “Very well, you will be the first.” It always felt to me that Vader dropped Anakin’s mannerisms and vocabulary too fast for me and the novel helps to bridge that gap.
