I had this once and was pretty convinced I was gonna die. I went to the emergency room thinking they were gonna try to do something crazy to save me but apparently a paper bag was enough to make it all good :D

Gamstoby Thanks for your comment. Drinking water could help. There are many tips that we could not include in the video. Drinking water, go outside for fresh air, chewing on gum or looking for distraction. Just a few tips - next to the breathing in and out in a paper bag.

Had this happen today. Was driving to a wedding about an hour away from home and was sitting in traffic. Was also a tad hungover from the night before. I was getting anxious and tried to do some breathing exercises to calm myself down, but I guess I was doing it wrong because my arms and upper abdomen started tingling. I pulled off of the highway on a random exit and started seeing signs for a hospital while calling 911. Decided I should just pull over so I pulled in to a random neighborhoods. The paramedics arrived and determined that I wasn’t having a stroke or a heart attack and said it was anxiety. Getting out of the car almost immediately calmed me down. I bailed on the wedding and went home. Scariest experience of my life. I’ve been having more frequent panic attacks but this was juuust the worst. Take care everyone.

I think I was hyperventilating the other night and it got so bad that I freaked out my parents because they took me to the ER. The doctors over there kept telling me my lungs were fine and I could breathe normally, but it felt like I couldn't.

When I cry really hard this happens and my parents yell at me to stop. I can't control it or tell them what is happening so I'm pretty screwed rn.

If you experience this, start writing whatever comes to your mind with your finger on any surface to keep your mind and awareness away from you breathing so that everything goes back to normal. Hope this helps, because it def helped me!

I hyperventilate when I’m crying. Idk why. I’m not panicking or anything; it just happens. Then when I try to talk my words sound chopped cuz of me hyperventilating and it’s really hard for me to breath unless I take a deep breath. I’ve always cried that way and it only happens when I cry.

Hyperventilation under pressure is the worst. Sometimes it's what people aimed for, and when they get a good reaction, they're happy. It's hard to just start trying to calm yourself while that, breathing in and out 😂😂

But personal tip of mine; if you're hyperventilating and start breathing in and out (like video said), use your hands a bit. As in down > breathe out, up > breathe in. I do it if I have a moment when alone, but in public I feel too embarassed to do it. I'm not saying it'll work for everyone, just give it a shot if you want to :)

chronic hyperventilation does not come in atacks, its just every hour of the day in the background making you tired and out of breath.

I have been hyperventilating for years now after having had a stroke. It increases my painful spasms. By doing a lot of research I found out this was a problem, but no doctor ever told me this.

yesterday My brother talked to me in a raised angry tone, I am very empathic and do absorb the feelings and emotions of others around me almost without choice, I noticed a change inside, but stayed calm, un aware that i was even stressed, But still the sensation esciladed over a minute, I had lost the ability to speak and had no way of letting my brother know that I need a moment to try and deal with it, But his reaction was to just tell me to stop being stupid and stop making it up, I descovered that once the process as started, though only the smallest early signs, don't even give us the power to prevent it running its course. So now i am planing on carrying messages on paper that I have pre-written to let people know i am about to have an attack, and to not over react, and let me go through the process, lots of water helps me back, but it takes about 20 minutes.

I experienced hyperventilation due to I have a mental breakdown, childhood trauma, stress, anxiety, depression. And I recently broke up with my boyfriend. I find it harder to cope up with this situation, most especially that I'm no longer living with my family.

Ps. I watched this video as I'm currently experiencing hyperventilation.

The only time I hyperventilated is when I was super stressed over school or just super anxious. I don’t like to use the word but I guess I try to avoid these “triggers” as much as possible. Haven’t had an attack in about 2 years. 👌
