"You have to take the first principles by faith" - JP

If you are interested in the problem of faith without rationale, I highly recommend the works of Søren Kierkegaard.

As a start, this lecture might be of great interest to many JP fans:

This is super important to the human experience.
Make sure you put thought into this.

I am getting older so my memory isn't too sharp, and, according to Robert Sapolsky, I'm shedding neurons in three parts of my brain, but I have a vague memory of a statement, perhaps from Judaism, about how no statement should be made in philosophy or religion, or in any context perhaps, that would not be credible in the presence of burning children. That got me thinking about JP and how he could speak with meaning if he were at the gates of Auschwitz during its liberation or if he were on a children's oncology ward where the kids' pain wasn't manageable. My critiques of his ideas, which are many, fall away in light of this.

First principles are the manifestation of ego. That's what we call god. Rationality is trumped by faith due to ego, and Peterson fully understands this due to his time as a therapist with patients struggling to reconcile pain with ego.

Faith in believing you'll not be cheated, good luck with that.

James 1:27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Simple to say; not so simple to do.
In a lot of ways, JP is a positive source for logical, reasonable awareness to the state of the human condition, and sound advisement to change in habit and character. Small, easy incremental changes that lead to a less chaotic, more fulfilling life.
But his attempts to psychoanalysis the Word of God is presumptuous at the very least, and at times, preposterous.
