Keep doing these ultra value battles, this is what we all wanna see even if we are on big hardware 👌🏻

Amazing just how much of a Crap show the B560 low-end Boards are! There are some Great Values there, but you really have to know what to look for! Thanks for all the great work Steve! Cheers! 🍻👍😎

"you'd be better off buying a 6-core 12-thread Ryzen 5 part and sticking that on the B560M D2V"
I assume you mean the B550M S2H?

This is why I love this channel, you guys are always grafting.

So current Intel CPUs are not only inferior, but they also require more expensive motherboards to not lose by huge margins.

didn't expect that S2H can run 5800X perfectly fine and with that vrm temps

I still like how AMD doesn't lock enthusiast grade features behind dumb paywalls, both on the motherboard level and on the hardware level. (Unlike the Intel K series).

And this is with a test bench or a case with good cooling, imagine a shitty airflow case

I'd be interested in a revisit of B450, particularly considering how popular boards like the B450 tomahawk/mortar max were

That's we need. The Gamer's base is mostly budget users. Keep up the hod work and I hope you make a series of it for budget users.

A video about the cheapest coolers that won't throttle the CPU would be more than welcome. I feel like to approach the best value, the mobo and cooler cost should be added with the CPU cost

That's crazy that the Intel performance is so hugely affected.

I'm getting an impression that the "value" argument for going Intel today, in multiple ways requires you to give up the ability to really utilize its performance potential in every workload, for the "argument" to hold water.

A bit like a solid performing work truck at a decent value pricepoint - but the towhook is a 25-30% extra option.

I have noticed precisely the same thing. The AMD mobos have gotten really good at managing their power budget while the Intel mobos have become highly variable due to all the little tricks Intel plays to try to win benchmarks. I've started to think of Intel systems as doing 'semi-managed overloads'.

I'm not quite willing to use the absolute cheapest AMD mobos, but neither do I feel I have to use an expensive one. The mini-ITX + 5900X with two 32GB sticks stuffed is turning out to be an incredible combination for us on the ASrock B550M-ITX/ac mobo. Also kinda funny... when I instantly load all cores the motherboard does a little SQUEEK!!!! as it temporarily overloads the VRMs (i.e. it beeps at me once), then goes into power limiting at the desired cap.

Hilarious! But the machines run really well, are quiet, and the small form factor is awsome.

If you haven't noticed, even the Ryzen mini-PCs act similarly... like the BeeLink I have (Ryzen 3550H). They will happily go right up to their power cap (25W in the case of the BeeLink I have), and distribute that power to whatever the resource demand is. So if just one core is loaded those little buggers are almost as fast as a desktop, and when all cores are loaded it tamps down the frequency to 1.7GHz or so. And, crazily, I can stuff 64GB of ECC ram (2 x 32GB ECC sticks) into something like that Beelink, plus a 2.5" SATA SSD, plus a NVMe M.2 SSD, plus a SATA M.2 SSD. All in one little box.

When folks are talking about intel offering better value right now they are almost never talking about 11th gen. I know in canada the price of a 5800x with no motherboard is equal to or more expensive than a 10700 and cheap z490/z590 board.

Really interesting stuff - challenges my preconception that motherboard selection was pretty much irrelevant for performance unless you were taking advantage of specific features for overclocking. Previously my understanding of best practice for making decisions was entirely based on features like connectivity more than trying to estimate performance. Looks like that might be out of date now!

Have you considered using a strategy or sim game like EU4 or Cities Skylines to add to the heavy CPU load category?

Not especially relevant, but back when Ryzen first came out I bought an X370 board and a couple weeks ago I bought a 3900X. That mobo is going to last me a very long time. I know the features on later boards are nice, but the ability to simply drop in a new CPU and double performance was amazing.

Thanks for checking/updating us on the AMD vs Intel VRM performance question. I was one of those asking (note, I asked, I was not blaming or claiming anything!) if AMD had similar problems in your other videos comments. :) As I only have 1 AMD cpu/board I cannot test myself, and saw some people posting different performances, so can thankfully put that down to their cpu lottery/bios versions/cooling options. Great stuff! :)

I literally went from an i7 860 with a GTX 560 Ti to a Ryzen 9 5950X with an RTX 3080. Umm I have no words.

As usual, good testing. Unbiased and informative.

One small thing though, and sorry if it’s nitpicking:

At around 20:00, you mention a Ryzen 5, then say that you can stick it on the B560 platform without power limits.

Just thought I’d point it out.

Thanks for the great content.
