The whole thing is gonna hinge on one question: WHAT'S THE PRICE?

Janus can convert a diesel Kenworth to electric pretty quickly for you too.
How's that working out?🤔

Doing the conversion in a day means all the details have to worked out in advance, so this would be available for only the biggest-selling models of the last decade or so.
Conversion of older, more exotic cars - the ones that could benefit most from a conversion due to a lack of spares - is likely to remain an expensive exercise.

There’s no structural battery back/skateboard design meaning the battery will be undersized by default. I doubt they’ll get much more than 100 miles of range, if that.

Great idea. There is a huge potential market- initially for specialist high value cars - for example Jaguar with a clapped out motor, but otherwise good body and suspension. Being a German start up they should convert an old Porsche 911 to a "Porsche E911 Blitzen" (Lightning without "donna", thunder)) may be just fast enough to beat a Cyber-truck! The Porch Factory should produce Porch lightning . Apologies if I have mis-spelt the German words, as I learned them from Santa's reindeer!

Not the time consumed for conversion is the biggest problem, but homologation.

I can’t answer the out the door price question, but the motor alone is $40, 000 as posted on their website. You’d better love the car!

Wow! That is faster than legacy auto can give you an over the air update at the dealership!

Telling viewers clearly that an existing vehicle has embedded carbon that has already been accounted for is a good thing, and modding an existing ICE to an EV lowers the need for a new vehicle, which is also good. Any safety authority in the west will tell you to research where a battery comes from and to what standard it has been manufactured to. It should not be hard to find this out and transparency in this regard is very important.

I have a vintage Porsche 911 and already a lot of engine parts are impossible to come by now. You have to get them custom made at great expense. I am looking forward to a reasonably priced drop-in kit to convert to EV, but so far these kits cost $70k or so.

This is going to be massive! If you want to be rich, get on board, like taking your car for an mot, in and out an EV genius😊

It’s never been about how quickly you can convert an ICE vehicle to an EV, it’s always about the price, and whether you will have useable range and fast charging ability afterwards. Because if it isn’t cheaper than buying a new EV then there’s no point unless you have a collectable old car.

a big issue with these conversions is that governments will not recognise these vehicles as exempt from the ulez or congestion charge zones, so a large investment for no savings on the road.

I hope their conversions from ICE to EV are more successful than the recent example of a Cement truck conversion gone wrong on the Westgate in Melbourne 🔥

There are small companies in different countries that do these EV conversions, but usually the cost is high and the end result is somewhat compromised in terms of range compared to new electric vehicles. You would be better to buy an old Nissan Leaf because it would cost about the same and have similar range. I'm surprised Sam is pushing this idea as he is usually against new EV's that are based on an ICE platform, and that's basically what this kind of vehicle would be, but you would still be driving a used car. If they were relatively cheap to convert, like under $5k I could see the value of it, but usually they are more than double that.

Able to convert an *"**#ICE** VEHICLE"* into an EV, in a single day is nearly Unbelievable 😳 ❕️

I suppose you people will never just accept EVs as a niche - but consider this. Just to replace the 9 million heavy trucks in the USA it would required 9 years of all lithium production. Not an ounce for cellphones or anything else. If you wanted battery packs in a circuit So you could haul long distance across the USA you'd need 10 megapacks for each truck. So even if you increased lithium production by 10, 000% 10x; you'd still need 9 years. If you wanted each pac to be solar charged it would take 3, 000-6000 solar panels per pack a total of 30, 000 to 60, 000 for the one truck to drive across country 1 direction. For 9 million trucks therefore it will take at least 30, 000 panels x 9 million trucks or 270 billion solar panels if under intense sun - 540, billion panels if there are clouds half the time probably a trillion for winter time. That is just the USA.there are 20 times as many heavy trucks world wide so multiply all that by 20 for just world trucks.

the oil companies should be made to pay for anyone who wants to convert to electric power

The rust is so bad in my area anything beyond an oil change takes more than a day.... A medium sized vehicle project will require you losing and re finding your faith in a higher power about once per bolt, 15 new swear words spontaneously invented and at least one small burn from the bolt you eventually had to vaporize with a torch.... my state needs better public transportation because the vehicle owner has to pay a mechanic to work on the car and the resulting counseling caused by the frustration of rust.. and you have to pay the state for all the salt, calcium, brine and everything else they buy to put on the road to destroy your car.

I've thought about it for a ute and you have somewhere for the battery pack.
