Do, does and did in questions

Sixty seconds is a little short, so I've chosen Two Minute English as my new title (length from one to two minutes).

This one is about a strange aspect of English: forming questions.

We usually form questions with an auxiliary verb (can, must, be, have...), but with verbs like 'goes' and 'went' we use 'do', 'does' and 'did'.

This video is available with captions, translation in your language (beta) and in high definition.

Hi Nick, I'm so confused that I can't decide what to use when asking a question about the starting point in the past and the period of time thta it had taken sb to do sth. When I say for instance, It started in Sumer some 5500 years ago. had I better say (When did that start?) or (How long ago did it start?)
And would you please explain the difference between {how long - how long ago, and when}?
