New developments are destroying wetlands that used to be able to absorb the water

Sarasota county commissioners allow developments everywhere..even wetlands that would have helped run off from the endless new developments

Unbelievable. I hope they don't get screwed by the insurance companies my bet is they will.

Stuff getting built up over the years screwed up all the drainage. Poor design

Some hurricanes are mainly rain events, some are mainly wind events. Obviously this was a severe rain event. Slow moving forward speed with tons of rain. Experienced this in the Bahamas many times. Hope everyone recovers soon.

i'm in this neighborhood. there is no way in or out of it unless you kayak because the water is too disgusting to walk in and cars cannot drive in it. no houses have flooded but there has been no improvement. everyone's just waiting for the water levels to decrease.

No one is talking about the new neighborhood that is being built faster than the old drains can handle bet that local leaders of that area homes are dry and pockets fat.

Mold must be an awful problem for everybody when the water recedes...weather is changing, you can debate why it is happening, but you can not deny it is happening. 😢

That there 1:24 looks like it is mixed with sewer water, I would not be walking through that looking for things to salvage until it recedes and I definitely would not eat anything that would have been in that freezer he said was floating at the other end.

You should realize raw sewage is probably mixed in that water

Horrible. When Floridians are shocked by a hurricane’s impact, you know things are turning freaky bad.

And it wasn't even record rain! The Sarasota area doubled in population in the last 20 years. New construction sites everywhere! Thousands of new homes and condos and businesses. Blame our Leaders, blame our Politicians! Changing farmland into residential! For the first time every, Bradenton Raceway and Dragstrip was flooded! Why? Because of new construction sites all around and Land Clearing for future sites! Start the Lawsuits!
