I still love Bill Nye. I could listen to that man speak about science all day.

186, 000 miles per second… not miles per hour.

Bill made a simple mistake, light travels 186, 000 miles per second, not per hour as he says at the end of the vid. However, Bill just proved to mankind that even extremely intelligent human beings make mistakes. He probably had a hot date and wanted to get the video finished A.S.A.P. and made a simple faux pas. Just hope he doesn't make one with his date, that is if he remembers where to pick her up!

Wrong Bill. The speed of light is 186000 miles per second, not miles per hour.

186, 000 Miles per second bill, not MPH

Could you also make a until of measurement which is the fastest we can send humans through space at the moment? Or at least calculate how fast it would take for us to go just one light year?

He was my teacher on PBS when he had a show

I don't know how people think it could ever be possible to reach planets outside our solar system. The distances in space are so vast we can't really comprehend it.

Bill Nye should save his breath trying to explain "light years" to a population that isn't very bright.

It can cross the world 1/10th of a second but it takes just over 8 mins for sunlight to reach earth. I'll never be able to wrap my head around the distance a light year truly is

Why don't people think of Einstein as a Schroeder's cat?

You might ask why does it go anywhere? The only answer that makes sense is it in a wave form. But that gets confusing because the wave doesn't have to be sustained from the point of emission. Light will bounce off a surface and still travel at the same speed. I have a theory, though, that radiation decays, and finally turns into dark matter. The universe is old enough for it to happen.
