Chocked that people would cry out at you for cycling - whenever I see overweight people exercising I always think "Great for you - go for it!". Have never cycled to loose weight - but cycling is a great motivator to do so as every kilo counts.

During this pandemic, I lost about 45kg and it happened mainly because I would plan weekly bike challenges and/or adventures, like bikepacking. Also, my diet changed because of "#2 fuel your rides" -I'm eating before the ride, high-calorie snacks during the ride, and a healthy meal for recovery. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate throughout the day! In addition, watch YouTube channels like yours to help achieve your goals or go on bike packing trips. I've learned how to climb hills from you, Katie before I used to avoid them and now it's a fun challenge: ) Last year I pedaled 5, 955 km and I am ahead of where I was last year at this time. Have fun and the weight will come off :)

Gosh I was tearing up watching this because I was in a similar boat with you. I lost 100 pounds years ago, found my love of cycling, and then I level out and went to the extreme end of eating disorder while cycling miles. This was a inspirational video and thank you for opening up. I love cycling I’m so happy I reconnected back to it during 2020 pandemic. Lost 20-30 pounds and I’m much happier now.

I lost 22kg a few years ago due to cycling. I followed most of your suggestions. I cycled for fun and weight loss was a bonus

I was the skinny roadie back in the 70's & 80's. 90's 00's and 10's became a mountain biker and was so much happier just riding for enjoyment. I've got bigger but some real skinny whippets came on our rides and were almost crying that it was to hard. different skills and muscles make a big difference. Keep your Zen attitude Katie 😊

This hits home! I am a large cyclist over 135kgs but I still get out there. I have always struggled with my weight and I was always jumping on the scales and concerned. This video has been a light bulb moment. Scales are going out and time to reassess my goals and eating habits. Thank you

Great video Katie. I haven't got an expensive bike, not the fastest either but love the feeling that cycling gives me.

Takeaway- “don’t take weightloss as a reason to ride, take cycling as a reason to ride”
I can confirm this and I stand by it as someone who started cycling in March 2020 at 116kg and was 84kg by November of 2020. Started gymwork and went up to 90kg and I have been struggling to get back down to 85kg because my goal the whole time was 80kg because of how obsessed road cycling is with weight. Thinking about losing weight on the scale really does stress you out. Been unsuccessful with intermittent fasting and calorie counting mostly because of how stressed out I get because the weight isn’t coming off like it did and I fall off my diet. Right now, I’m just trying to enjoy the adventure like I did before- whatever happens alongside, I’ll take it and enjoy it still.
Thanks Katie.

Katie just loved this video. I was 16 stones and a size 22 when I started cycling into work. Like you I fell in love with my bike. I remember my first Audax a 100km with 10 hours to finish in and I got back with 20 minutes to spare! But the cycling love bug had bitten!
I’m still over weight. 11 stone but I manage Audax rides that I once assumed were there for the super human men in this world.
I’m usually at the back - I don’t care I’m a full value rider. As you rightly say, the adventure is everything.
Oddly enough I’ve been calorie counting since September and remained at 70 kgs.
I’m now fed up with calorie counting it did nothing.
Past three weeks without calorie obsessiveness and I’m nearly 65kgs! How come!! But now I’m trying your mind set. The bike, the adventure and much nearer the bottom - my weight.

Great information Katie. Cycle simply for the joy of cycling, the weight loss is inevitable, as is the toning up and general feeling of well being. I'm 65, still working and cycle most days in all kinds of weather, and sometimes laugh out loud from the sheer, simple joy of being out on the road!

Such well-balanced advice on weight loss! I was restricting at 1200 calories per day for a year and either running and/or cycling daily. Surprise surprise, I ended up in a nasty binge eating cycle and messing myself right up! Now I have gained 15 kg but no longer binge eat (but do now over eat). Looking to get my weight back down the right way and it was really refreshing to watch this video. Thank you!

Thanks Katie for the positive & inspiring videos.
Since subscribing to your channel I've gone alcohol free & starting running to improve my bike fitness.
I've become a nicer cyclist too, if i see someone with bike trouble now i have to stop to try to help because i feel we're all part of a community.

Lifestyle change that embraces fun riding adventures instead of focus on Watts and other stats with a commitment to sticking with it as a long term project is the way to go. Excellent Level Up video … ta very much!

Katie, you are such and inspiration and a wealth of knowledge. You're so personable and relatable that your message gets across to those that are lucky enough to find you. As a former competitive road racer and triathlete I admit that I restricted myself and tried to do what the pros were doing. Surely if it worked for them then it had to work for me. Yes I was racing at my lightest weight....BUT I wasn't healthy, and more importantly I wasn't happy. When I started to pay more attention to me, to "the adventure" and to enjoying the journey without focusing on the destination, it all came together.

Thank you for all that you do for cycling, and more importantly for so many people who tune in to heed your advice. Would love to get to ride with you one that accent - swoon ;-)

Thanks so much Katie...you are an amazing person. What you share and the way that you care about people's physical and especially their mental health tells me so much about your heart. There was so much great advice in this video but what I liked most was #4 Set goals around the bike...not weight. I have been cycling for years and to this day I can tell you details about the best rides that I accomplished and why they were important to me. My mental health improves so much when I ride and that becomes justification to get out and ride. The physical health aspect of it gets accomplished along the way. I also liked 'wear what you want'. The cycling community is generally filled with good, encouraging people. However, there is the occasional snob who thinks that you have to dress a certain way or ride a certain bike. Forget that...just get out and ride knowing that wonderful people like Katie are cheering you on.

The best video I have seen on youtube this week! So much of this has been the case for me. I didn’t start cycling 2.5 years ago to loose weight, but to have fun and adventures with my teen son. I was hugely unfit, everything was a struggle. I got myself an e-mountain bike. I lost 15kg in 18 months. Then just over a year ago I got myself a road bike (unassisted), I rode almost 6000km on it last year. I now have a gravel bike (unassisted too), and in 7 weeks have ridden almost 600km on that! For me, the weight loss was not the goal. It was the fitness, I turn 50 this year and am fitter now than when I was 25! Love the videos, thanks!
