Nathan, I owe you significant gratitude. I'm a 70 year old Papa who began playing hold em regularly 2 years ago. I found you on YouTube and have watched a few dozen of your videos. I live by your hand chart, rarely enter a hand without a raise and practice controlled but aggressive continuation bets. I don't know how long this run will last but I'm up $35K this year -- only playing tournaments. I've monied in 2 WSOP events in Las Vegas, won a $600 mystery bounty tournament in Reno, and am up $3.5K playing countless tournaments at the local poker club. Thank you Nathan. Great video, my issue is I’ve won a few local tournaments, playing well and the last month or so I’ve had the worse downswing ever.. and when I mean downswing I mean hand quality .. not picking up any hands .. then I try make something happen because I’m not getting hands, and get smoked. Leaving my confidence on the floor .. i went like 3 tournaments without picking up a pocket pair or any broadway hands.. even trying to rep certain hands and they end up having what I’m trying to rep, going through a serious patch I keep thinking it’s mental but when your not picking up hands it’s really hard .. anyone else go through a really rough patch of not picking up good hands? I have it in my head that good players make it happen when they can’t pick up a hand, doubting my ability.

Thank you so much for your strategy tips. I went to try them out in a 1, 2, 8 player NL cash table this Saturday (2/10/24) at the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa Fl with a $300 buy-in. In 2 hrs I was able walk away with $969. Your advice allowed me to open my mind an see the game from a more strategic perpective.

It looks like Nathan has invested some money in production. He either bought a nice microphone or did this video in a studio. As usual, great content. As for the last rule (and I'll plug the game that's making me the most money at the moment--I don't want hold'em to kill it like it did stud), Omaha/8 differs from hold'em in that you want an aggressive player on your left to bet your big hands for you. As Tenner and Krieger point out in their Mastering Omaha/8, this disguises your strength and sets up a vicious check-raise.

One issue with moving tables is that, at least at the tables I play at, if your stack exceeds the table max, you have to put away the balance of your chips. Therefore you potentially go from big stack to small(ish) stack. Does this create an issue or is it more important to ensure you are at a fishy table with the expectation that you will bring your stack up again?

7:04 he says they have bluffs in their range and list 9, 7 as a bluff, but it gives a straight on that board

Immediately started getting great results just by raising more often, bluffing when I feel everyone doesn’t have anything especially when losing, checking/calling when aggressive people bluff while I have a decent hand, betting even when I have nothing and 3 of the 5 river cards have been “delt” while I have high cards such as kings and aces, bluffing even while I have the lowest cards and high cards are on the table and raising even further when I have a hand and there’s players calling more often.

Sure I do lose bigger sums of money sometimes but the net increase has lead to more winnings than losing, multiple winning streaks etc. obviously it’s still a very real possibility to lose altogether but instead of having a slight net loss I now have a good net win rate.

I’ve finally won pretty descently in two tournaments. First tournament was a $20 satellite to a $215 buy in for a bigger tournament. I got first place in the satellite and then I got 5th in the second tournament. Which I won $980. Thank You so much for the tips.

your Youtube content is GOLD!!! having good success applying your methods at microstakes...have lost the appetite for play in unprofitable situations (ie very tough villain(s), too many short stacks, no other deep stacks)

a question about seat choice: Is there some value in having a <predictably> aggressive player on the hero's right so that before the hero has to act, he already knows the rest of the table's response to an aggressive play?

Aggressive players on your left "making your life hell" lol that's when you get tilty too, I was just thinking about this in your last video with the AQ example. I'll say it again your advice to leave/sit on the left of hyperaggressive players is game-changing for new players who don't know about position yet. Thanks for teaching how to be aggressive back! Need to take down more pots when you don't have anything... Hmm.. I was hoping I could just get really good at the math but I'm learning more that poker is more about acting and learning how to be the bigger bully 😅

Thanks for the videos! I recently lucked out on an online freeroll and got $40 then hit the nickel tables and with $1 left I watched some of your videos and made a few bucks on another freeroll so I could give the tables a shot. I have a little over a hundred now. The raise on preflop and continuation bet instead of playing it slow was a game changer.

Hi Nathan. Thank you so much for posting such informative and helpful content. Your wealth of knowledge and advice is invaluable. I've been playing hold em (live low limit 1/2 and 1/3 NL cash games only) for many years but I have recently decided to try to take my game more seriously. Your content has been extremely helpful. I really want to get to a point where I can feel confident that I have the ability and skill to win consistently every time I sit down at the table and eventually be able to move up in stakes. I know you've mentioned that hiring a coach is very important and it helped you immensely. The problem in my mind is that I feel like any coach that is worth their salt is going to be extremely, prohibitively expensive and the return from "cheaper" coaches might not really be worth the investment. I watch videos, have read books, I've done a course (it was OK) but I feel like one on one coaching would be very helpful. What do you advise would be the best/most effective way for me to proceed in my journey to really improve? I'm sorry for the length of this post. Thank you so much for your advice!

#7: just beware of reverse implied odds if the fish calls, #4: big stacksizes are important as I've always learned that you should be able to win at least 20x your call size, not only to overcome your 1:9 odds, but also because more often than not you won't get paid off when you actually do hit your set, either because your opponent misses the flop entirely or because they actually beat your set.
