f/0.9 For $350? - FD To E Mount Speed Booster Comparison (Lens Turbo II + Roxsen + Fotasy Review)

All photos near the end are shot wide open at f/1.2

To clarify, the speed booster won't "magically" change the aperture of your lens. But it will restore the full frame field of view, and concentrates the "full frame image" on to your APS-C sensor, giving you an extra stop of light.
And I understand the clear difference between F stops and T stops, as well as the fact that the speed booster is merely restoring the original full frame image that the lens is capable of producing.
However, the only other way to get this much bokeh and field of view on an APS-C sensor (without the help of a speed booster) is to shoot with a ~35mm ~f/0.9 lens, which is a lens that simply does not exist.
I had no clue I would get so many arguments about this. If I knew, I would have made it much more clear in the presentation of the video.

*** The Roxsen Speed Booster cannot focus to infinity due to the glass actually hitting the back of the lens at around 5-10m focus distance (only on selected lenses). This might be a deal breaker for you.

Lens Turbo II ~$150
Roxsen ~$80
Fotasy Adapter ~$30

Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 ~$290
Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 ~$70

Love your conclusion in the end.
It just a tool. No matter how much the gears was, in the end, the most important part is, it's you.

04:35 ... there were millions of us that took perfectly excellent photographs before our cameras started adjust our F-stop and focus for us. It is "actually not a big deal." Thank you for this video.

Great video! I love your ending - too many people get caught up with what is "best" and forget the larger picture. Subscribed!

Beautifully put! I literally am just getting into shooting, got a panasonic G7 and I love the idea of vintage lenses. I have been scouring around at vintage lenses. The idea of the craftsmanship and that these have been used to make amazing art before our time and can still hold up just as well today thrills me. Ill be check out all the rest of your stuff!!

The last bit is great!
It is all about the person behind the viewfinder, not the elements in between the sensor and the subject.

There seems to be quite a bit of misinformation in this comment section in regards to aperture when it comes to crop vs full frame. To put it simply, aperture does not get cropped or changed because of sensor size. It doesn't matter if you are using a medium format camera or a micro four thirds a f2.8 will always be an f2.8(with the exception of the use of a speed booster, but ill get into that later.) Like i mentioned in a previous comment, imagine you have a piece of paper and you are holding it in direct sunlight and then you cut that piece in half. If you do this, you will notice that the half you have left does not magically get darker. What some of you are basically saying is that the paper will get darker for whatever reason, but physics just doesn't allow that. What i am trying to get at is that regardless of sensor size, the overall average amount of light per mm squared will always be the same on an f2.8 regardless of sensor size. The only change is coverage. The reason a crop sensor is called a crop sensor is simple, Its literally as if you went into lr and cropped a full frame image. Its really simple stuff that for some reason people have a hard time getting their heads around. Now onto how speed boosters work. The really do effectively increase your f stop by shrinking the image circle and thus increasing the average light per mm squared. It really is that simple, just like a magnifying glass concentrating the suns light at a small point to get enough light to start a fire.

I think a lot of the confusion is due to people using different definitions. There are two ways to think about it:

The Speedbooster effectively turns:

A '75mm f/1.8 [FULL FRAME EQUIV. LENS]' into a '~50mm ~f/1.2 [FULL FRAME (EQUIV.) LENS]'

OR

A '50mm f/1.2 [APS-C LENS] into a '~35mm ~f/0.9 lens [APS-C EQUIV. LENS]'

yup, all comes down to what you do with the camera.

I think you forgot the aps-c crop factor that applies to the aperture as well 1.2 x .726 = f.87 x aps-c 1.5x = f1.3,
But great video overall and amazing pictures!

I got the Lens turbo and several Canon FD lenses because of this video. Best thing ever. My photos are amazing. My friend has the expensive Sony and Sigma lenses. My shots look so much nicer and artsy.
