Space Weather focuses on the interactions between the Earth and Sun. On the other hand, Astronomy is the study of the planets, stars, galaxies, and other celestial bodies in our universe.

Astronomers fall into two broad groups. Observational and theoretical.

Observational astronomers focus directly on the study of the celestial bodies in our universe. Theoretical astronomers model and analyze how systems may have evolved.

Astronomy focuses on the evolution of how a body formed, evolved, and died. The time frame spans millions to billions of years. Astronomers work from a snapshot in time. Observations help confirm models created by theoretical scientists. The models they create are based on information that has been collected in the past.

Math is the foundation of physical sciences including astronomy.

Astronomers use math to observe patterns and make predictions. For example, math is used to understand why the sun rises and sets.

There are many fields an astronomer can go into, including: planetary, stellar, solar, and galactic astronomy, cosmology, and astrometry.

Planetary astronomers focus on the growth, evolution, and death of planets. Stellar astronomers study the life cycle of all types of stars. Solar astronomers take the time to analyze our closest star, the sun! Galactic astronomers study our galaxy, the Milky Way. Cosmologists observe and study the universe in its entirety. The oldest field, astrometry, focuses on precise measurements of the position and motion of astronomical objects. These measurements help determine when or where something will occur - like eclipses!

Overall, astronomy is a physical science that helps us understand our place in the universe.
