I'm going to graduate school for physics, but there's a reason why I didn't go the astro route. Find out now on dbz kai.

in England physics departments are almost always called "The School of Physics & Astronomy"

The real reason Andrew didn't want to become an astrophysicist was to avoid awkward conversations with his neighbors about not knowing Neil deGrasse Tyson

Astronomy is more of a multidisciplinary science (involves chemistry for studying stars, geology for planetary model etc), probably why it's a stand alone department.

As an Astrophysics major, i’m sorry for your loss!😆

American Universities take your money for applying.
That's so sad. Alexa, play Despacito

Have you learned how to make your own Light Saber yet?

Yeah I agree! When I passed 12th standard, I wanted to do a BS-MS course in Astrophysics, but now I think, after my BS in physics... I will rather go for theo. physics in MS-PhD (more specifically in gravitational physics, GR and string theory) but still want to buy a 8-12 inch telescope and want to spend whole night over the roof observing the celestial events and stars!

I'm currently at MU and our department actually does combine Physics and Astronomy.

Because you can't drink and derive there?

I think while it is valuable to have prior research experience in a sub-field when applying to grad school, it’s not necessary. Bear in mind this comes from someone who went from condensed matter to astrophysics w/o any prior research experience in astrophysics at a school where the Physics and Astronomy departments are combined as one. My 2 cents is that if you really think astro is a route you want to at least try in the grand scheme of physics then I think looking for schools that offer joint Physics and Astronomy programs would be a good idea :)

Great video as usual!

Theoretical nuclear physics? Maybe you will find your way to the Idaho national lab. They do some cool stuff out in that desert plus they were the first to make a nuclear reactor.

Hey Andrew, dig the videos...thought I came across one where you said you would be graduating soon. Awesome news and congrats. I know you like the physics memes was wondering what you thought about a reaction video to 'Epic Rap Battles of History' (ERB) videos on Stephen Hawking vs Albert Einstein and one with Bill Nye vs Sir Isaac Newton.

i'm not sure what I want to pursue yet. I'm learning toward cosmology, astroparticle physics, or just particle physics in general.

If have had the change of studying also the field of astrophysics then (with the other ones you already had), would you have done it?

How do you find internships as a high school student?

I'm in the medical field but I would love to study astronomy so that In the future I can participate in Space Missions (XMEN quote)

I was so naive at first to focus only on the path that took me to my passion, I didn't care so much for the booming job market like you do, but having accumulated 90K student debts as a result of studying in an American university for 3 years, I realized i wasn't as privileged as the average American who claimed they didn't care about the booming job market. I will stick with physics for sure, but have decided to chose a subfield that has good enough pay.

Wait u can apply to multiple programs in the same school, is that allowed

I applied to 8 programs, all but 2 were Astrophysics, cause the other two were just Astronomy and basic physics as a worst case. I got a PhD offer in astronomy but didn’t like the research… and now I’m starting at Brown technically in just physics…? I applied for Astrophysics lol but there’s a physics department and from the limited info I’ve gotten (yea I start in 2 weeks and still confused) their Open curriculum thing allows you to pick a core classes and speciality classes along with your research specialty. So I guess that’s where my Astrophysics comes in.

Idk with interviews and stuff, I got the feeling of some catfish stuff going on cause if you advertise an Astronomy department and research, but end up only having 2 Astronomers in the department where no astro classes are even offered… do you expect any passionate student to accept an offer?
