I hope alot can learn from this and even if you notice something about me that can teach me I am happy with that too. But I like to show my personal experience with my Toyota Tacoma and how my 4x4 has been working flawlessly with this method! All feedback welcome! :D

To all the RTFM guys NO i didn't not read the manual on the 4WD yet. The truck is a month old and I put it on 4WD today for the first time. As my last truck, I put it in Neutral and put it in 4W high...then stopped, Neutral again and 4W LOW.. My issue came up when I went to put it back into 2WD and it just wouldn't go. I tried it in NEUTRAL, DRIVE and PARK but it would not go the only thing left to try was rolling in DRIVE....and right in.
Wish I watched this BEFORE lol Or yes, read the manual first.

Is placing the vehicle on neutral on a manual transmission the same procedure??

Been trying to get a 2022 Tacoma TRD sport 4x4 double cab it's dam near impossible. The dealership wants 45 k . Last year that's what the TRD Pro cost. Now the TRD Pro is 50 plus. Shit is ridiculous

So to deactivate, do you just take your foot off/coast and not worry about putting it in neutral before turning it off?

I've heard you have to be on a level surface to engage the rear locker. Is that true?

Watch the video of “Car Care Nut”, he is a master mechanic from Toyota. He switch from 2-wheel drive to 4H while crusing on a straight line, doing it repeatedly as long as you don’t turn and speed not more than 60mph. And he said you can do that in a dry pavement (just make sure drive on a straight line and do not turn, and no more than 60mph speed).

AMD, the Car Care Nut, is a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician, and he explained Toyota's 4WD system.

At 11:40, he goes from 2H to 4H back and forth at will without going into neutral, nor does he take his foot off the gas.

All he says is to at least engage the 4WD at least once a month to keep the system working.

Rolling or not, mine dosent want to engage 4x! low is a different story all together! It's like it has a mind of it's own... The last time it did go into low, , , it didn't want to get out!!! WTF 2021 ex-cab v-6 6sp man trans TRD SPORT bought it new has 28k on it now TROUBLE since New! been in the shop more than i drive it

I was just watching another video that said if you want to put it in for low you should stop your car put it in neutral and switch to four low. I don't know if that's the case but if you shouldn't switch while moving to for low that's probably something you should add to this video. I do know that for high you can switch into while moving. But I'm not as sure about four low. Common sense as far as I know it would say switching to anything in neutral would be better than doing it while moving because there's no strain on the transmission or the engine but I don't know that's why I clicked on the video.
